Mortgage & Finance Broker

Australia-wide | Onsite or hybrid, based on what you want

Base for brokers runs $85,000 to $140,000 nationally depending on experience, before commission and trail.

You're writing well. You've got valuable client relationships, maybe a trail book, and a week that works for you, and on paper there's no reason to move.

Some of it grates though. Maybe the leads have thinned out and nobody's told you why. Maybe you're still doing your own processing after hours, or the commission structure changed and you had to chase someone to explain what it meant.

You haven't moved because you'd be betting everything you've built on a job ad with no number in it, and you're worried a move could cost you all of it. That's a fair worry.

I'm Joe, I run FinTalent, and I recruit brokers for owner-led brokerages across residential, asset and commercial lending. Instead of waiting for the right business to advertise, I start with you.

We have a confidential conversation about what you write, what you earn and what you'd want to be different. I put together a shortlist of businesses I think suit you, with who they are, what they do and why I thought of you, and you tell me which ones appeal. I take your profile to those businesses with your name off it, and nobody learns who you are until you say so.

Three of my placements earlier this year came from people I'd been talking to for months before the role existed.

What you get from me

- A shortlist of businesses picked around you, and the final say on every one your profile goes to.

- A straight read on each business, including the parts that won't suit you.

- What your experience is worth in base, split and trail, before you speak to a single principal.
- Your name kept off everything until you decide otherwise.

About you

- Cert IV in Finance and Mortgage Broking at a minimum, and accredited or able to get there.
- Ideally two years or more writing your own deals, or a lending background at a bank and a reason to broke.

- You can sell. Knowing every credit policy under the sun won't help if you can't get a bloody deal in the door.
- You pick up the phone, work the leads, and hold your own with a sole trader or a fleet operator.

You might have run your own brokerage, and you're wondering how to explain those years without a principal assuming you'll leave and start another one. That's a conversation I have a lot. If you want a base with no targets attached, none of this will suit you.

The money

- Our salary guide puts brokers with two to five years on $85,000 to $110,000 base nationally, and five-plus years on $110,000 to $140,000, before commission.
- Employed brokers trade a slice of commission for that base and the support around it, and self-employed brokers keep more of the split but carry their own costs and risk.

If you're already writing well above that, tell me what you're on and I'll tell you whether a move beats it. If your experience lines up, I'll call you for a confidential conversation before your profile goes anywhere. Apply with your CV, or message me here on LinkedIn.
