Team Leader – Motor Fraud

Are you an experienced people leader with a strong background in insurance investigations and fraud management? We are seeking a highly capable Team Leader – Motor Fraud to lead a high-performing investigative team within our Fraud & Intelligence function. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key leadership role, overseeing complex investigations, driving operational excellence, and fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
About the Role
As Team Leader, you will oversee investigative operations, ensuring quality, compliance, risk management and effective resource allocation across the team. You will lead a group of specialists responsible for investigating suspected fraud, while driving customer-focused outcomes and maintaining the highest standards of integrity and professionalism.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will provide leadership, coaching and strategic direction to ensure the team consistently delivers high-quality outcomes and contributes to broader business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Operational Leadership
- Lead and manage investigative cases, ensuring thorough, accurate and timely investigations.
- Implement quality assurance processes that uphold investigative standards and operational excellence.
- Review and approve investigation reports, ensuring legal, regulatory and organisational compliance.
- Ensure investigative activities comply with relevant legislation, regulations and industry standards.
- Identify, assess and manage operational risks, implementing effective mitigation strategies.
- Optimise resource allocation and workforce planning to support business objectives.
- Manage operational budgets and expenditure effectively.
- Maintain a strong customer focus while balancing investigative integrity and ethical decision-making.
- Resolve customer concerns relating to investigations with professionalism and empathy.
- Safeguard sensitive information and ensure appropriate handling of confidential data.
- Oversee timely reporting and documentation of incidents and investigation outcomes.
- Support data governance initiatives through robust documentation, data controls, classification and compliance practices.
Leadership & People Management
- Lead,
coach and develop a team of investigators, providing clear direction, support and constructive feedback.
- Foster a culture of excellence, accountability and continuous improvement.
- Build a high-performing, engaged and adaptable team aligned to organisational goals.
- Promote collaboration, inclusion, wellbeing and flexible ways of working.
- Support and lead organisational change initiatives and continuous improvement programs.
- Set clear goals and performance expectations while empowering team members to achieve results.
- Champion professional standards and role model organisational values and behaviours.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Develop and maintain strong relationships across the business to support effective collaboration.
- Partner with stakeholders including risk, underwriting, customer teams and leadership groups.
- Engage effectively with external stakeholders such as legal representatives, regulatory authorities, law enforcement agencies and suppliers.
- Provide regular updates on investigation progress, outcomes and emerging risks.
- Proactively seek stakeholder feedback to improve operational effectiveness and customer outcomes.
Capability Development
- Identify capability gaps and create opportunities for learning, development and growth.
- Support ongoing capability uplift across the Fraud & Intelligence function.
- Encourage knowledge sharing, coaching and collaborative problem-solving.
- Promote customer-centric innovation and continuous improvement.
- Build team resilience, engagement and morale through effective leadership and support.
About You To be successful in this role, you will bring extensive leadership experience within insurance, financial services or a related investigations environment, coupled with a passion for developing people and delivering exceptional outcomes.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years' leadership experience within Insurance or Financial Services.
- Demonstrated success leading and developing teams.
- Strong investigations experience within the insurance industry.
- Experience managing insurance investigations, investigation teams and/or case management functions.
- Proven ability to lead operational teams in complex, fast-paced environments.
Desired Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Insurance, Law or a related discipline.
- Professional accreditation or qualifications from organisations such as IIA, ICAA, ISACA or AIBF.
- Experience or accreditation in LEAN methodologies.
