Position: Nightclub Licensee

Employment Type: [Full-Time / Part-Time /

Position Overview The Nightclub Licensee is responsible for the overall legal, operational and compliance management of the venue, ensuring the business operates safely, responsibly and in accordance with all applicable liquor licensing laws, regulations, licence conditions and venue policies.

The Licensee acts as the key responsible person for the venue's liquor operations and is expected to maintain a strong presence during trading hours, particularly during peak trading periods. The role combines regulatory compliance with hands-on venue leadership, staff management, customer experience and commercial performance.

The successful candidate will have solid knowledge of nightclub operations, liquor licensing requirements, RSA obligations, security procedures, incident management and responsible service of alcohol.

Key Responsibilities1. Liquor Licence & Regulatory Compliance

- Maintain and ensure compliance with all conditions attached to the venue's liquor licence.
- Act as the responsible person/licensee as required under applicable NSW liquor licensing legislation.
- Ensure liquor is sold and supplied only in accordance with the venue's licence conditions.
- Ensure all required licences, approvals, notices and documentation remain current.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of NSW liquor licensing requirements and relevant regulatory obligations.
- Liaise with Liquor & Gaming NSW, NSW Police, Council and other regulatory authorities when required.
- Ensure the venue complies with applicable trading hours, patron capacity, noise and operational restrictions.
- Monitor changes to liquor licensing legislation and implement any required operational changes.

1. Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA)

- Ensure all staff involved in the sale or supply of alcohol hold the appropriate RSA qualifications.
- Ensure RSA policies and procedures are consistently followed by all staff.
- Prevent the sale or supply of alcohol to intoxicated persons and minors.
- Ensure appropriate ID-checking procedures are followed.
- Monitor responsible drinking practices throughout the venue.
- Ensure staff understand their obligations regarding refusal of service.
- Take immediate action when RSA breaches or unacceptable patron behaviour occurs.
- Conduct regular staff briefings regarding RSA and responsible service expectations.

1. Venue Safety & Security

- Work closely with the Security Manager and security team to maintain a safe environment for patrons and staff.
- Ensure security staff operate in accordance with venue procedures and legislative requirements.
- Monitor patron behaviour and intervene appropriately when required.
- Ensure incidents, altercations, injuries, refusals of entry and removals are properly documented.




- Maintain appropriate procedures for emergency situations, evacuations and medical incidents.
- Ensure venue capacity limits are monitored and not exceeded.
- Regularly inspect the venue for hazards, unsafe practices and compliance issues.
- Maintain strong communication with management and security throughout the night.

1. Staff Management & Leadership

- Lead and supervise the venue's management and operational teams.
- Ensure adequate staffing levels are maintained for each trading period.
- Conduct pre-shift briefings and communicate operational priorities.
- Ensure staff understand venue policies, procedures and compliance requirements.
- Address performance, conduct and compliance issues promptly.
- Support training and development of staff.
- Promote a professional, inclusive and respectful workplace culture.
- Lead by example and maintain a high standard of professionalism during trading.

1. Nightclub Operations

- Oversee the smooth operation of the venue during trading hours.
- Ensure bars, floors, bathrooms, entrances and other operational areas are appropriately managed.
- Monitor customer experience and address complaints or issues promptly.
- Ensure venue presentation, cleanliness and service standards are maintained.
- Coordinate with DJs, entertainers, promoters, event organisers and external suppliers where required.
- Ensure opening and closing procedures are completed correctly.
- Monitor stock levels, wastage and operational requirements.
- Ensure cash-handling and POS procedures are followed.

1. Incident & Compliance Management

- Maintain accurate incident, refusal of service and management records.
- Ensure significant incidents are escalated to the appropriate parties.
- Review incidents and identify opportunities to improve venue procedures.
- Ensure CCTV and other relevant security systems are appropriately maintained and available when required.
- Cooperate with regulatory authorities and law enforcement when legally required.
- Maintain accurate records relating to RSA incidents, security matters, complaints and compliance issues.

1. Commercial & Financial Management

- Assist in achieving venue revenue and profitability targets.
- Monitor bar sales, labour costs, stock usage and wastage.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and profitability.
- Work with management to develop promotions, events and revenue-generating initiatives.
- Review nightly sales and operational reports.
- Monitor purchasing and stock management.




- Balance commercial objectives with responsible service and regulatory compliance.

1. Customer Experience

- Maintain a visible and approachable management presence.
- Ensure patrons receive a high-quality and consistent experience.
- Handle customer complaints professionally and efficiently.
- Manage difficult or disruptive patrons calmly and appropriately.
- Maintain the venue's reputation and standards.
- Ensure the venue remains welcoming, safe and inclusive for all patrons.

Required Skills & Experience

Essential

- Current and appropriate NSW liquor licensing credentials/eligibility.
- Current NSW RSA competency.
- Previous experience in a licensed venue, preferably a nightclub or high-volume entertainment venue.
- Strong understanding of responsible service of alcohol.
- Strong knowledge of nightclub operations and security procedures.
- Ability to manage high-pressure situations calmly and professionally.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Strong understanding of compliance and risk management.
- Ability to work late nights, weekends and public holidays.
- Strong incident management and decision-making skills.

Desirable:
- Previous experience as a Licensee, Approved Manager, Venue Manager, Duty Manager or similar.
- Experience managing high-volume nightclub operations.
- Experience working with Liquor & Gaming NSW and/or NSW Police.
- Experience managing security teams.
- Strong commercial and financial understanding.
- Experience managing large-scale events and entertainment operations.

- Positive relationships with regulators, police, security personnel, staff and venue stakeholders.
