Proudly Australian and family owned, our client is a successful residential builder known for its hands-on, personal approach.

The business has established a significant reputation in public housing. As an approved State Government contractor, it delivers renovations and new builds right across regional Victoria, from Mildura to Wodonga, right through to the Grampians and closer to home in Shepparton. More recently, it has also expanded into the private market, focusing on quality residential renovations and extensions, and is already winning work in this area.

With more than 30 projects currently on its books, including contracts involving multiple homes, the business is growing and placing increasing demands on its lean team. The Managing Director is also investing in what comes next, with a marketing plan supporting private-sector growth and significant investment in AI, predominantly around online quoting and estimating, as well as improving internal efficiencies.

Against this backdrop, the newly created Operations Manager role is an important appointment for the business.

The opportunity

Working closely with the Managing Director, you’ll take responsibility for key commercial and operational activities across the business.

Your remit will include public housing tender responses, estimating and quotations, while coordinating and supporting the Contract Administrator and working closely with the Site Supervisor on critical administration and commercial matters, including claims management and variations.

You’ll oversee 3 office staff and help manage the growing project workload, with a focus on delivering against project commitments and budgets.

But this is not simply a role to manage a busy project pipeline.

You’ll take a lead role in the change agenda across the business, improving processes, embedding the greater use of AI and technology,



strengthening internal capability and helping drive the continued expansion into the private sector.

The commercial objectives therefore are equally practical: strengthen tender win rates and gross profit performance while building the operational capability required for sustainable growth.

Perhaps of real interest to you though, is the longer-term chance. The Managing Director is looking to establish a leadership team that will enable him, over time, to step back from some of the day-to-day management of the business. For the right person who performs in the role, the succession plan is for the Operations Manager to develop into General Manager, with potentially ownership.

About you

We’re looking for someone who understands construction and can bring both commercial discipline and practical operational leadership.

You’ll have experience in the construction sector, ideally residential, together with experience across estimating and contract administration. Exposure to Government contracts would be well regarded, but it isn’t essential.

You’ll also be comfortable operating in a growing, hands-on business where the opportunity is not simply to inherit established corporate systems, but to help improve and build them. You’ll need the judgement to balance the immediate demands of a busy project environment with the longer-term work of improving processes, capability and commercial performance.

You may already be operating at Operations Manager level, or you could be a developing manager in the construction sector who is ready to broaden your responsibilities and take the next step.
