About the role

Reporting to the Ministry Team Leader, you will provide spiritual and emotional support within a diverse, inclusive, intergenerational and intercultural congregation. The role has a particular focus on supporting the growing number of older members, including those experiencing illness, hospitalisation, bereavement, transition into residential care or social isolation. It will also help strengthen pastoral care across the congregation by supporting volunteers and encouraging meaningful connections between generations and cultures.

Key responsibilities

- Undertake regular pastoral visits in homes, hospitals and residential care facilities.
- Provide spiritual and emotional support during illness, grief and significant life transitions.
- Follow up with members following hospitalisation, bereavement and other significant events.
- Work in partnership with the Ministry Team Leader, Church Council and lay pastoral carers.
- Coordinate quarterly gatherings for pastoral carers, incorporating training, reflection and planning.
- Recruit, support and encourage volunteer pastoral carers.
- Develop two to four initiatives each year that strengthen intergenerational relationships.
- Contribute to worship and the congregation's liturgical life, as agreed with the Ministry Team Leader.
- Maintain appropriate records, confidentiality, professional boundaries and Safe Church practices.
- Participate in regular professional supervision and provide annual reports to the Church Council and Congregational Meeting.

About you

- A committed Christian faith consistent with the ethos of the Uniting Church in Australia.




- Demonstrated experience in pastoral ministry, spiritual care, aged care ministry or a related field.
- Experience in ministry, community development or a faith-based or not-for-profit organisation.
- The capacity to relate warmly and sensitively to people of different ages, cultures and circumstances.
- An understanding of grief, ageing, illness and significant life transitions.
- Excellent listening, interpersonal and written communication skills.
- The ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Sound judgement, discretion and a strong commitment to confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- An understanding of the Uniting Church's ethos and polity, or a willingness to develop this understanding.
- A willingness to work flexibly, including occasional activities outside usual business hours.
- A current driver licence and the capacity to travel locally.
- The right to work in Australia.
- A satisfactory Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check.
- A current NSW Working with Children Check.
- Evidence of good standing within their faith community.
- A willingness to comply with the Safe Church, work health and safety, and other relevant policies of the Uniting Church Synod of NSW and the ACT.
