Payroll & HR Administrator
Work Type: Part-Time Salary: $70,000 base + superannuation + 5% STI (bonus)
Location: Remote — Australia
30 hours a week. Fully remote. Real, varied work. If you're looking for flexibility without giving up impact — read on.
ABOUT THRYV
Thryv has been helping local businesses compete for over 125 years, from print directories to an AI-powered platform built to grow small businesses through digital marketing. The businesses we work with are the plumber trying to get found on Google, the salon owner who never has time to follow up, the family restaurant competing against chains with bigger budgets.
We give them the tools to compete. And we give the people who work here a career worth having. Our culture runs on accountability, genuine relationships and doing the right thing. We take ownership, back each other and when it goes well, we celebrate it properly.
THE ROLE
This is a genuinely varied part-time role — 30 hours a week spread across five days — sitting at the heart of our People operations and spanning payroll, HR administration and recruitment support across Australia and New Zealand.
It's fully remote, and it's built for someone who wants real, meaningful work without the full-time commitment.
You'll own our New Zealand fortnightly payroll (around 50 employees) and act as trained backup for Australia (around 270 employees), working alongside our third-party payroll provider. Alongside payroll, you'll be the backbone of our recruitment administration — from calling candidates and managing HireVue follow-ups, to drafting contracts and getting new starters set up in UKG.
If you take pride in getting the detail right, you're confident on the phone and you know how to juggle competing priorities without dropping the ball — we want to hear from you.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
Payroll
- Own the NZ fortnightly payroll end to end — from pre-processing checks to sign-off — and serve as trained backup for Australia
- Manage UKG changes for new starters, terminations, leave balances and system updates
- Maintain SOX compliance documentation and complete regular audits
- Prepare monthly HR and Finance reporting across AU and NZ
- Handle payroll queries from employees and support the wider team on ad hoc projects
Recruitment Administration
- Call HireVue candidates daily to confirm interview completion or manage withdrawal — send withdrawal emails within 24 hours where needed
- Deliver unsuccessful feedback calls to candidates on the same day outcomes are confirmed
- Verify working rights via Home Affairs VEVO and manage employee file setup in UKG
- Draft offer letters and contracts accurately at point of approval, and manage the issuing process
- Coordinate reference checks, schedule interviews and Assessment Centres
- Manage the Thryv Careers inbox, employee referral forms and candidate enquiries
- Support the TA team with ad hoc recruitment tasks as they arise
HR Administration
- Monitor and manage the HR mailbox, draft letters via Adobe Sign and support compliance checks
- Act as business owner for the Flare and Boost employee rewards programs — managing the supplier relationship, maintaining records and driving engagement
WHAT YOU BRING
- Experience in payroll administration,
ideally across AU and/or NZ — you understand Super/KiwiSaver, payroll tax, termination calculations and reading employment contracts
- Experience in HR administration — handling confidential records, contracts and correspondence with care
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities without letting things slip
- High attention to detail — you review your work before it goes out, every time
- Confident, professional communication skills — written and on the phone
- The ability to work independently and use initiative when an established process doesn't quite fit
- Comfort working in a changing environment and picking up current systems quickly
- Experience with UKG or a similar payroll/HRIS platform is a bonus, but not a dealbreaker
- Experience in recruitment administration is desirable — but if you're keen to learn, we'll back you
