Summary
Our client G.K. Staff Pty Ltd, operating as Gorski Engineering, is seeking to add a Welder (First Class) to its established Somerton manufacturing team. With a proud Australian family-owned heritage dating from 1975, the business designs and manufactures premium tipper bodies, combining skilled fabrication, engineering expertise, quality materials, VASS certification and PBS compliance within its comprehensive on-site operation.
The typical job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
• Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints and specifications to determine welding, fabrication and assembly requirements.
• Select, inspect, clean and prepare steel and other metal stock for fabrication work.
• Measure, mark and cut metal sections accurately using appropriate hand and powered cutting equipment.
• Shape and bend metal components using workshop machinery, heating methods and suitable fabrication techniques.
• Align and position components precisely using measuring instruments, clamps, jigs and hand tools.
• Join metal sections using appropriate welding techniques to achieve strong, accurate and durable assemblies.
• Fabricate and repair structural components used in custom-built tipper bodies and related transport equipment.
• Inspect completed welds for bead width, penetration, alignment, strength and overall workmanship quality.
• Grind, file and smooth welded joints to achieve required finishes and safe finished surfaces.
• Operate welding and fabrication equipment safely in accordance with workshop procedures and manufacturer instructions.
• Identify fabrication defects or dimensional issues and undertake necessary corrective welding or repair work.
• Maintain welding tools, equipment and work areas in clean, secure and serviceable condition.
• Work collaboratively with engineers, fabricators and workshop personnel to meet production schedules and specifications.
• Follow workplace health and safety requirements while maintaining consistent quality throughout all fabrication activities.
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for the role:
• Hold an AQF Certificate III or IV in welding, fabrication or a closely related metal trades discipline.
• Possess a minimum of 12 months' recent, directly relevant experience as a Welder (First Class).
• Demonstrate strong practical capability in welding, metal fabrication, cutting, shaping, fitting and assembly within a manufacturing environment.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints and technical specifications accurately to determine fabrication and welding requirements.
• Produce consistently high-quality welds with appropriate penetration, alignment and finish while meeting specified dimensions and tolerances.
• Use welding equipment, hand tools, measuring instruments and fabrication machinery safely, accurately and efficiently in workshop operations.
• Demonstrate sound knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements, including safe handling of materials and welding equipment.
• Work effectively within a team, follow production priorities and maintain dependable workmanship across custom fabrication projects.
