Gympie Regional Council is seeking a knowledgeable, customer-focused and solutions-oriented existing GRC team member to join our Planning and Development Customer Contact Service Point on a Maternity Leave position, through to October 2027.

This role is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys helping customers navigate more complex enquiries, sharing knowledge with colleagues and contributing to improvements that make it easier for our customers to do business with Council.

About the role

As a key escalation point within the Customer Contact team, you will provide high-quality, accurate and consistent advice to customers across face-to-face, telephone and email channels.

You will use your knowledge of Planning and Development processes, legislation and Council policies to assist customers with technical enquiries and support them to submit complete applications.

You will also play an significant role in supporting your colleagues by providing informal feedback, sharing knowledge, assisting with training and information sessions, and helping the team manage daily priorities.

What you’ll be doing

In this role, you will:

- Provide professional and customer-focused advice on Council and Community Sustainability enquiries.
- Manage escalated and complex applications and customer enquiries.
- Support Customer Contact Officers by sharing knowledge, providing guidance and contributing to training.




- Assist customers and community members to understand requirements and submit complete applications.
- Contribute to the delegation and coordination of daily duties while maintaining a strong customer service focus.
- Identify opportunities to improve business processes, information and customer experiences.
- Undertake a range of administrative activities, including document management, data entry, application processing, invoicing and quote generation.
- Accurately process Council payments and complete daily banking reconciliations.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external customers and stakeholders.
- Contribute positively to team culture by supporting colleagues, receiving feedback and identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Provide customer service at other Council customer service points when required to support business continuity.

About you

We’re looking for someone who is confident, resilient and committed to delivering an exceptional customer experience.

You will bring:

- Knowledge of legislation and policy, preferably within a Planning and Development environment.
- Highly developed verbal, written and active listening skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of customers and stakeholders.
- The ability to work independently while also contributing positively within an integrated team setting.
- Robust organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and high-volume workloads.
- A proactive approach to learning, professional development and continuous improvement.
- The ability to build effective working relationships and confidently manage complex or escalated customer matters.

It would be advantageous if you also have:
- Previous customer service experience within a Planning and Development Directorate in Local Government.
- A Diploma in Local Government (Planning),



or equivalent experience or exposure to Local Government.
- Experience with cash handling processes.

Mandatory requirement

- A current and maintained Queensland ‘C’ Class driver licence.
