Position: APS6 Strategic Communications Officer
Location: Canberra, ACT
Start date: ASAP
Duration: Approx. 6 months with potential to extend
Pay rate: $65.56 – $73.71 per hour plus 12% super
Security requirements: Minimum Negative Vetting 1 clearance at time of application
Overview:
Our Federal Government client is seeking an experienced APS6 Strategic Communications Officer to support the delivery of strategic communications for a significant international partnership and mobility program.
Working within a team-oriented policy and program environment, the successful candidate will maintain and implement strategic communications plans, develop engaging communications materials, coordinate communications across government and international stakeholders, and support social media, information products and multimedia content.
This role would suit an experienced communications professional with strong writing, stakeholder engagement, social media and content development skills, along with experience using graphic design software.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain, implement and update strategic communications plans.
- Develop communications materials relating to international development, security and mobility initiatives.
- Coordinate with internal teams, Australian Government agencies and international stakeholders to identify communications opportunities.
- Ensure communications align with agreed strategies, messaging, branding and visual identity requirements.
- Support the management and development of social media channels and content.
- Undertake monthly forward planning and scheduling of social media content.
- Design social media tiles and other visual materials using software such as Adobe Illustrator or InDesign.
- Monitor and moderate social media comments and maintain appropriate records.
- Assist with developing social media moderation policies and processes.
- Draft, review and maintain fact sheets and other public information products.
- Coordinate translation of key communications materials.
- Support the development and management of image and video content.
- Develop and maintain a searchable library of multimedia assets.
- Assist with developing and implementing strategies to capture participant stories, including coordinating interviews and consent processes.
- Work collaboratively with stakeholders to ensure communications products remain accurate, current and fit for purpose.
Experience/requirements:
- Demonstrated experience in strategic communications, preferably within government or a similarly complex environment.
- Strong written communication and content development skills.
- Experience developing and implementing strategic communications plans.
- Demonstrated social media content development, planning and moderation experience.
- Experience using graphic design software such as Adobe Illustrator and/or InDesign.
- Ability to develop professional information products including fact sheets, social media assets and other communications materials.
- Experience supporting multimedia content, including images and video.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and coordination skills, with the ability to work across multiple teams and organisations.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to work effectively at the APS6 level with limited supervision.
