About 1 and One
1 and One is a business and management consultancy delivering recruitment, consulting and advisory services to government. Our recruitment work primarily involves responding to requests through established government panel arrangements. We also recruit for consulting and advisory engagements delivered by 1 and One.
Currently, approximately 50% of our roles are in government IT. The remainder span broader government, consulting and advisory work.
The opportunity
We are looking for an experienced, hands-on recruiter with the judgement and credibility to recruit senior professionals and engage executive-level candidates. You will interpret government requirements, recognise strong talent and turn opportunities into placements and billings, owning delivery from sourcing and assessment through to submission and placement.
Your first priority is to achieve consistent results from our existing government panel arrangements. Once that delivery is established, you will broaden into targeted business development and new client opportunities, with priorities agreed with the CEO.
Reporting to the CEO, you will work with our broader corporate team and founders on strategy, pricing and shortlists. You will use JobAdder daily, build candidate and client relationships, and improve our agreed recruitment processes.
What you will do
- Interpret panel requests and statements of requirement, identify essential criteria and deadlines, and prioritise opportunities where we can offer credible candidates and a competitive response.
- Spot talent through targeted conversations and evidence of delivery. Assess technical and non-technical experience, including senior and executive-level capability, rather than relying on titles or keywords. Seek specialist input where needed.
- Search and develop our JobAdder database, reconnect with candidates and source additional talent. Build a pipeline for recurring requirements, manage recruitment stages and keep skills, availability, screening outcomes and communications current.
- Confirm candidate interest, availability, rates, authority to represent and any specified eligibility or security clearance requirements before submission.
- Own the quality and timing of submissions.
Work with candidates on accurate, tailored CVs, selection criteria responses and summaries, and coordinate pricing and documentation with the corporate team.
- Manage candidate and client communication through submission, interview and placement. Build relationships, provide timely updates and follow up on outcomes and further opportunities.
- Take responsibility for agreed placement, billings and margin targets. Track prospect conversion and recruitment activity in JobAdder, and identify where results can improve.
- Work directly with the CEO and corporate team to refine recruitment processes, remove avoidable manual work and use AI tools effectively, while following agreed workflows and maintaining reliable records.
- As panel delivery becomes consistent, pursue further business through targeted outreach and lead generation with new and existing clients. Contribute candidate and workforce information to consulting and advisory proposals.
About you
- 5-7 years or more of end-to-end recruitment experience, with personal ownership of sourcing, assessment, client relationships and placements. Government recruitment experience is highly regarded.
- Strong talent judgement and demonstrated success recruiting senior professionals. You can engage credibly with executive-level candidates, test evidence of delivery and recognise capable government consultants and contractors.
- You can recruit across disciplines. Specialist IT recruitment experience is not essential, but you must be willing and able to learn technical terminology, ask informed questions and assess relevant and transferable experience.
- Confident, hands-on JobAdder capability is essential. You use it to search effectively, manage recruitment workflows and maintain accurate, useful records.
- Excellent writing and attention to detail.
You can develop accurate CVs, selection criteria responses and candidate summaries without overstating experience.
- Commercial judgement and a record of generating recruitment revenue. You can discuss rates, contribute to pricing and placement decisions, and build client relationships, with the capability to develop new business as the role expands.
- Confident, regular use of AI tools to improve research, drafting and administration. You can demonstrate practical results, check accuracy, protect confidential information and apply your own judgement.
- A practical approach to improving recruitment processes, combined with the discipline to follow agreed workflows. You work independently from home, manage competing deadlines and keep candidates and colleagues informed.
What success looks like
Initially, success means reliable panel recruitment that produces well-matched placements, billings and margins against agreed targets. This includes accurate submissions delivered on time, responsive communication, useful JobAdder records and a reusable talent pipeline.
As delivery becomes consistent, success will also include new client opportunities and additional business secured through targeted outreach and relationship development. You and the CEO will agree when to broaden that focus without compromising panel outcomes.
Compensation and benefits
- Base salary of $100,000-$120,000 plus superannuation, depending on experience.
- Uncapped commission, paid monthly, with the final package tailored to your track record and experience.
- A remote role with ownership of recruitment delivery and direct access to the CEO and founders.
- Established government panel arrangements, alongside consulting and advisory services that provide a broader range of opportunities.
- Scope to improve agreed processes, develop new business and take on broader leadership responsibilities as the business grows.
