Are you an experienced Medical Secretary or Medical Receptionist who thrives in a busy specialist practice and enjoys making a genuine difference in patients' lives?
We have a wonderful opportunity to join our supportive Medical Oncology team at our Icon Cancer Centre Wesley, providing dedicated administrative support to a highly respected specialist. This role is based exclusively at our Wesley centre and offers a consistent 27-hour work week, working alongside a compassionate doctor and a team committed to delivering exceptional cancer care.
Hours of work:
- Monday to Thursday: Afternoon clinics
- Friday: Full day clinic
This is a rewarding role where no two days are the same. You'll be the key point of contact for patients, carers, referrers and healthcare providers, supporting patients throughout their cancer treatment journey with professionalism, empathy and attention to detail.
About the Role
As the Medical Secretary, you will play a critical role in the day-to-day operation of a busy oncology practice. The position requires someone who can confidently manage competing priorities, remain calm under pressure and work autonomously while maintaining a high standard of patient care and service.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing specialist clinic appointments and schedules
- Providing reception and secretarial support for consulting clinics
- Welcoming and assisting patients and their families
- Responding to telephone and email enquiries with professionalism and empathy
- Coordinating referrals, patient documentation and correspondence
- Processing billing, invoicing and payments
- Liaising with healthcare providers, referrers and allied health teams
- Maintaining accurate patient records and confidentiality
- Supporting the smooth operation of a busy oncology practice
About You
We're looking for someone who is highly organised, proactive and able to juggle multiple tasks in a quick-moving clinical environment.
You will bring:
- Previous experience as a Medical Secretary,
Medical Receptionist or in a similar specialist practice role
- Exceptional communication and customer service skills
- A warm, compassionate and professional approach to patient interactions
- The ability to multitask and prioritise effectively in a busy environment
- Confidence working independently and taking ownership of your responsibilities
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- The ability to remain calm and adaptable under pressure
- Experience with Microsoft Outlook and medical practice software (highly regarded)
- A collaborative team mindset and commitment to excellent patient care
