Head of Digital Infrastructure and Operations

Shape the future of digital infrastructure and operations at Barwon Water. This is a rare opportunity to lead enterprise wide capability across corporate infrastructure, cloud platforms, networks, operational technology, control systems and electrical engineering, strengthening the reliability and security of services that support our customers, organisation and region.

About the role

Reporting to the General Manager Digital and joining the Senior Leadership Team, you’ll set the direction for the infrastructure and operational technology domain on which Barwon Water operates. You’ll lead corporate infrastructure, platforms and networks, operational technology, control systems and the electrical engineering estate, with accountability for reliability and operational security.

Partnering across the business, you’ll provide the secure platforms that Digital Engineering consumes. You’ll also lead the operational technology, plant and network control systems and electrical engineering capabilities that support drinking water quality, treatment and continuity of supply.

You’ll drive measurable improvements in service reliability, major incident reduction, recovery time and infrastructure uptime, while strengthening disaster recovery, business continuity and critical-infrastructure assurance across corporate and control-system environments. You’ll progressively automate routine operational work, manage a growing number of AI agents used within Infrastructure and Operations, and shift team capacity from reactive support to proactive and preventative operations.

About you

You bring senior leadership experience in infrastructure and operations within an asset-intensive, safety-critical or regulated environment, including accountability for operational technology or industrial control systems. You understand IT and OT convergence,



critical-infrastructure security obligations and the practical constraints of segmentation, remote access, patching and asset lifecycle where continuity of supply cannot be compromised.

With strong commercial and governance acumen, you can develop investment cases, manage operational expenditure and capital budgets, optimise costs and provide clear, evidence-based advice in a complex regulatory setting. You build trusted relationships across technical and non-technical stakeholders and exercise sound judgement where infrastructure or control-system decisions could affect safety, customers, the environment, regulatory obligations or organisational trust.

An experienced leader of multidisciplinary technical teams, you build an engaged, capable and resilient workforce across infrastructure, operational technology and electrical engineering. You lead confidently through change and ambiguity, strengthen internal capability and help people work effectively alongside AI without eroding the professional judgement required for safety-critical operations.

A relevant tertiary qualification in engineering, information technology or a complementary discipline is required. Experience operating enterprise platforms across Microsoft Azure and AWS, enterprise identity through Entra ID, Conditional Access and Intune, and cloud environments as consumable platforms for engineering teams will be highly regarded.
