Position Title: Automotive Spray Booth Painter and Prepper
Location: Pakenham, VIC
Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Working Hours: Monday to Thursday 6:00am to 2:30pm and Friday 6:00am to 12:00pm (with reasonable flexibility)

Hourly Rate: $35 to $45 based on experience and certification

Position Summary

The Automotive Spray Booth Painter and Prepper is responsible for preparing, painting, and refinishing vehicles and vehicle parts to manufacturer and customer specifications.

This role ensures all paintwork achieves the highest standards of finish, colour accuracy, and durability, while meeting strict safety and environmental requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Preparation & Application

- Prepare vehicles and parts for painting by sanding, masking, priming, and cleaning surfaces.

- Mix and match paints using digital or manual colour systems to ensure colour accuracy.

- Operate spray booth equipment to apply primers, basecoats, and clearcoats.

- Apply refinishing techniques to repair panels, bumpers, and vehicle bodywork to a factory-level finish.

Quality & Compliance

- Inspect completed paintwork for accuracy, finish, and defects.

- Follow OEM (original equipment manufacturer) specifications, repair manuals, and job cards.

- Ensure compliance with WHS regulations, including safe use of hazardous chemicals and PPE.

- Adhere to environmental standards, including correct paint storage, waste disposal, and ventilation use.

Equipment & Maintenance

- Maintain spray booth, spray guns, and related refinishing tools in clean and operational condition.





- Conduct basic troubleshooting and report equipment faults.

- Ensure spray booth filters, air compressors, and ventilation systems are maintained as per standards.

Collaboration & Communication

- Work closely with panel beaters, detailers, and workshop managers to coordinate repair jobs.

- Communicate clearly on paint-related issues or delays.

- Provide input on process improvements for efficiency and quality outcomes.

General

- Undertake other duties as assigned by your Supervisor or other Manager’s within MFI and aligned with the role.

- Participate in or contribute to projects or process improvement initiatives.

- Comply with all MFI Policies and Procedures.

- Cultivate a safe working environment.

Key Skills & Qualifications

Essential

- Minimum 2 years of automotive spray-painting experience is required.

- Certification in Automotive Refinishing Technology

- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail and quality work product.

- Robust communication skills, able to guide technicians and collaborate across teams.

Desirable

- Certification in Automotive Refinishing Technology

- Experience in automotive painting with a manufacturer, body builder or repairer
