An established and growing Brisbane construction business is looking for an Accounts Officer to join its finance team based in Fortitude Valley.
This is a hands-on role covering both Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, suited to someone who enjoys taking ownership of their work and wants to become an important part of a busy, project-driven business.
You'll also work closely with an existing offshore accounts assistant, so we're looking for someone who has enough experience to coordinate workload, delegate tasks and ensure the day-to-day accounts function stays on track.
You don't need to be a qualified Accountant. We're looking for someone with a good grounding in transactional finance who is organised, accurate and confident working autonomously.
The Role Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing day-to-day Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
- Processing supplier and subcontractor invoices
- Raising invoices and maintaining accurate customer accounts
- Managing debtor follow-up and outstanding accounts
- Reconciling supplier statements and resolving discrepancies
- Assisting with bank and account reconciliations
- Liaising with suppliers, subcontractors and internal project teams
- Responding to account and payment queries
- Coordinating workload with an offshore accounts assistant
- Reviewing and following up outstanding finance tasks
- Maintaining accurate financial records and supporting documentation
- Assisting with general finance administration and reporting
- Providing broader support to the finance team as required
About You We're looking for someone who has already developed a solid understanding of AP and AR and is ready to take a little more ownership in their next role.
Ideally, you'll have:
- Previous experience as an Accounts Officer, Finance Officer, Accounts Administrator, AP Officer, AR Officer or similar
- Practical experience across Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
- Robust reconciliation and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Confidence dealing with suppliers and internal stakeholders
- The ability to prioritise and manage a busy workload
- A proactive approach and willingness to take ownership
- Some experience coordinating, delegating or reviewing the work of others
- Strong general systems and computer skills
Experience within construction, property, development, engineering or another project-based environment would be highly regarded.
Previous exposure to MYOB and/or Jobpac would also be advantageous, although this isn't essential for the right person.
The Opportunity This is more than a transactional processing role.
The business wants someone who can become a trusted member of its finance function, take responsibility for their workload and help keep the accounts process running efficiently.
You'll be joining an established construction business with a strong pipeline of work and the opportunity to broaden your responsibilities as you develop within the position.
Salary is negotiable depending on experience.
If you're currently working within AP/AR and looking for your next opportunity in Brisbane, we'd love to hear from you.
Apply now for a confidential discussion.
