Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner
2 Days Per Week with option to increase | Northern Suburbs Perth
Finding Harmony is looking for a Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner to join our small, family-run practice for approximately 2 days per week, supporting participants across the northern suburbs of Perth.
We are an NDIS-registered therapy service providing Behaviour Support and Psychotherapy, with a particular interest in supporting people with Autism, ADHD, PDA, intellectual disability and complex behavioural or psychosocial presentations.
At Finding Harmony, we believe good behaviour support starts with understanding the person.
We take a person-centred and holistic approach, recognising that behaviour occurs within the context of a person’s individual development, environment, relationships, experiences and needs. We strongly value agency, autonomy and collaboration, and believe that the person and their family should remain at the centre of the work.
The role
This is a versatile hybrid role suited to a practitioner looking for approximately 2 days of work per week, with the option to increase days in time.
You will work predominantly with NDIS participants in Perth’s northern suburbs and be responsible for providing Positive Behaviour Support in accordance with the NDIS Positive Behaviour Support Capability Framework and relevant Commission requirements.
The role may include:
- Conducting functional behaviour assessments
- Developing Interim and Comprehensive Behaviour Support Plans
- Working directly with participants and their families
- Collaborating with support workers, schools, therapists and other members of a participant’s support network
- Providing implementation support and training
- Monitoring and reviewing behaviour support strategies
- Completing clinical documentation and NDIS reports
- Supporting the reduction and elimination of restrictive practices where applicable
- Helping families and support teams understand the needs and functions underlying behaviour, rather than simply trying to stop behaviour
High level of support, training and supervision
A key feature of this role is the high level of support available to the practitioner.
We do not expect practitioners to manage complex cases in isolation.
Finding Harmony is committed to providing ongoing support, training and supervision to help practitioners develop confidence, clinical reasoning and capability within Positive Behaviour Support.
Depending on your experience and practitioner level, support may include:
- Regular clinical supervision
- Case consultation and reflective practice
- Support with functional behaviour assessment and formulation
- Guidance with Behaviour Support Plan development
- Assistance with restrictive practice requirements and NDIS Commission processes
- Support with report writing and clinical documentation
- Training around complex presentations
- Opportunities to discuss challenging cases before important clinical decisions are made
- Ongoing professional development and mentoring
- Support progressing through the NDIS Behaviour Support Practitioner Capability Framework
This role may therefore suit both an experienced practitioner wanting strong clinical collaboration and a developing practitioner who wants structured support while building their PBS skills.
Our aim is to create an environment where practitioners feel comfortable asking questions, discussing uncertainty and continuing to develop their practice.
Who we are looking for
We would love to hear from someone who is:
- A Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner or interested in developing within the PBS field
- Eligible to obtain or already holding NDIS Behaviour Support Practitioner suitability
- Comfortable working independently while still being part of a supportive clinical team
- Curious about the person behind the behaviour
- Able to build genuine relationships with participants and families
- Collaborative, reflective and open to different perspectives
- Committed to ethical, person-centred practice
- Organised and able to manage documentation and reporting requirements
- Interested in ongoing professional development, supervision and reflective practice
Experience working with ASD,
ADHD, PDA, intellectual disability, trauma or complex behavioural presentations would be particularly valuable.
Relevant qualifications may include psychology, counselling, psychotherapy, social work, occupational therapy, developmental education or another relevant behavioural/allied-health discipline.
Why Finding Harmony?
We are deliberately building a practice that is personal rather than corporate.
We want practitioners to have the time and flexibility to understand the people they work with and to develop meaningful relationships with participants, families and support teams.
You can expect:
- 2 days per week work with the option to grow
- Predominantly northern suburbs of Perth caseload
- Flexibility around how your working days are structured
- A small and supportive practice environment
- Regular clinical supervision and mentoring
- A high level of support with complex cases
- Ongoing training and professional development
- Support progressing through NDIS Behaviour Support practitioner requirements
- Support with reporting, formulation and Behaviour Support Plan development
- Access to clinical discussion and case consultation when needed
- A culture where asking questions and seeking guidance is encouraged
- A strong focus on autonomy, dignity and individualised support
- Opportunity for the role to develop over time if desired
Most importantly, we are looking for someone whose approach fits with ours.
Qualifications and experience matter, but so do curiosity, empathy, sound clinical judgement and a genuine desire to understand why a person behaves the way they do.
