Casual Chef – Hotel Commonwealth

Location: Ipswich QLD

Hours: Weekdays, evenings and weekends as required

About the role

Working alongside the Head Chef and kitchen team, you'll be involved in all aspects of the day-to-day operation of the kitchen, including food preparation, cooking, service and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and food safety. This role would suit an experienced chef who is comfortable working as part of a team but also has the confidence and experience to take charge of the kitchen and run a busy service independently when required.

Key responsibilities

- Preparing and cooking high-quality pub meals

- Managing your section during busy lunch and dinner services

- Maintaining consistency in presentation, portioning, and food quality

- Assisting with functions, events, and group bookings

- Supporting smooth communication between the kitchen and front-of-house team

- Following food safety, hygiene, and cleaning procedures

- Assisting with stock rotation, storage, and preparation

- Managing service efficiently during busy periods

- Supporting the Head Chef with the general day-to-day running of the kitchen

- Taking responsibility for service when the Head Chef is unavailable

About you

- Previous experience as a chef in a busy pub, restaurant or similar hospitality environment

- Confidence in running a busy service

- Produces consistent, quality food

- Works calmly and efficiently under pressure





- Strong organisation and time-management skills

- Maintains excellent food safety and hygiene standards

- Reliable and takes pride in their work

- Communicates well with both kitchen and front-of-house teams

- Available for weekend and evening shifts

- Positive attitude and enjoys being part of a close-knit team
