Your opportunity

As a Vessel Traffic Services Officer, your role will be filled with variety and challenge as you help us operate a safe and secure port 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in compliance with our Port Safety Operating Licence. Here’s how your impact will really count:

- You’ll work in a team of 3-4 VTS Operators to coordinate the movement of vessels in and around the port maintaining high situational awareness within the Vessel Traffic System coverage area.
- You’ll operate Vessel Traffic Service equipment and systems such as electronic chart system, radar, AIS, CCTV, telecommunication, and VHF that enable monitoring and management of traffic.
- You’ll participate in emergency response within and outside the port including mooring failures, loss of propulsion, oil and chemical spills, firefighting, and search and rescue.
- You’ll coordinate communication between the Vessel Traffic Service centre, participating vessels, and port users and allied services.

This role is part time (18 hours per week on a rotating shift pattern) maximum term contract for up to 12 months.

What you’ll bring

- Driver’s licence and willingness to travel between locations in the portfolio
- Experience in a maritime setting

We’d also love you to have:





- Ability to obtain and maintain an IALA V-103/1 Operator Certificate or higher qualification
- Master <24m Near Coastal
- Certificate of Local Knowledge Sydney
- Ability to monitor, operate and interpret modern radar, AIS, CCTV and communications systems
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Ability to compile detailed written reports for a range of different audiences
- Ability to work in stressful situations while remaining calm and making sound decisions
