About the role

The Mine Geologist provides practical geological control for the safe and efficient operation of the Comet Underground Mine. The role delivers face and development mapping, production and grade-control sampling, geological interpretation, drill support and accurate data capture to inform daily mining decisions. Working closely with mining and technical services, the position maintains reliable geological data sets and communicates geological risk, opportunity and ore-control information in a timely manner. The role supports the transition of Comet from restart activities into sustained underground production.

Key responsibilities

- Complete development face, backs and wall mapping to the required frequency and standard; identify lithology, structure, alteration, mineralisation and geological hazards relevant to mining
- Provide timely geological mark-ups and advice to support development and production decisions
- Track development and stope dirt to ensure no dilution or ore loss; maintain sample identification, QA/QC insertion and chain of custody through laboratory submission
- Review assay results and support ore/waste interpretation and grade-control decisions
- Capture, validate and maintain mapping, sampling, drilling and production geology data in company systems
- Update sections, plans, wireframes and short-term geological interpretations under direction
- Provide geological input to underground grade-control, resource-definition and exploration drilling; log underground drill core and coordinate sampling
- Contribute to daily, weekly and monthly geology reporting and shift handovers; compare mapped geology, sampling, model predictions and mining outcomes to identify variances




- Plan underground tasks with appropriate risk assessments, permits, controls and communication; work effectively with mining crews, survey, engineers, geotechnical personnel and contractors
- Actively support Valiant Gold's commitment to safe, respectful and environmentally responsible work; comply with statutory obligations, site requirements, policies, procedures and critical controls

About you

- Bachelor degree in Geology, Geoscience, Earth Sciences or a related discipline
- Practical geology experience in mining or advanced development, including mapping, sampling, core/chip logging and geological data management
- Current Western Australian C Class driver licence; required site and underground inductions, or ability to obtain them
- Underground mapping, sampling, logging and practical ore-control capability
- Geological interpretation and ability to recognise and communicate geological uncertainty
- Accurate digital data capture, validation and use of geological software and databases
- Planning, prioritisation and delivery in a shift-based operating environment
- Clear written, visual and verbal communication, including shift handovers and technical mark-ups
- Collaborative working style across mining, engineering, survey, geotechnical and contractor teams
- Ability to safely access and work in an underground mining workplace, walk on uneven ground, climb stairs and ladders, and carry standard geological equipment and samples within safe limits
