About the role

The Senior Mine Geologist is accountable for all geological functions at the Comet Underground Mine. The role provides safe, timely and technically sound geological support to establish the underground operation, optimise ore delivery and grow the Comet and Pinnacles resources to extend life of mine. Working back-to-back with another Senior Mine Geologist, the position leads Mine Geologists and Geology Technicians, and works closely with Engineering, Survey, mining contractors and drill contractors.

Key responsibilities

- Lead all day-to-day geological functions at the Comet Underground Mine across the roster
- Allocate and prioritise the work of Mine Geologists and the Geology Technician, maintaining clear technical standards and effective shift handovers
- Design and plan underground diamond drilling programs for resource definition, extension and geological risk reduction
- Manage the Comet Mine Ore Pad, including geological control of ore placement, identification and stockpile status
- Update lithology and lode domains using underground mapping, drilling, sampling, survey and production information
- Maintain accurate geological interpretations, sections, plans and three-dimensional models appropriate to operational decision-making
- Participate in regular audits of Valiant critical controls and follow through on geology-related actions
- Lead, coach and develop Mine Geologists and the Geology Technician, building consistent underground geology capability
- Provide practical,



timely geological advice to the General Manager – Comet and the wider operations team
- Establish fit-for-purpose underground geology workflows, systems and routines as the mine develops

About you

- Tertiary qualification in Geology, Geoscience, Earth Sciences or a related discipline
- More than five years' experience as a Mine Geologist, including underground mine geology responsibilities
- Demonstrated ability to lead geologists, technicians and contractors in an operational environment
- Experience designing, planning and monitoring underground diamond drilling; grade control; logging, sampling and QA/QC; ROM management; and geological interpretation
- Experience with resource models, reconciliation and integration of geology into engineering designs
- Current Australian manual driver's licence and ability to meet site access requirements
- Current first aid and relevant WA mining safety competencies
- Able to safely access and work in an operational underground mine and associated surface facilities
- Experience in narrow-vein gold deposits and mine start-up or ramp-up environments (desirable)
- Qualified membership of AusIMM or AIG (desirable)
