What's the role?
As our Search and Emerging Platforms Specialist, you’ll play a crucial part in increasing our visibility and conversion across search engines and AI-driven discovery platforms. You’ll be across our metro and regional masthead titles, working closely with journalists, producers and editors to optimise stories from breaking news articles to in-depth features. You’ll play a key role in content planning, researching and presenting deep dives for future large-scale content series.
This role can be based in our Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide or Melbourne office
Key responsibilities
- Working closely with both Editorial and Product teams to ensure articles and other content will appear on search engines and LLM platforms.
- Providing advice to journalists and editors for optimising story headlines, body copy and other on-page elements in order to gain visibility on search engines.
- Troubleshoot issues in both technical and content elements when stories aren’t performing.
- Analyse traffic and subscription performance data to provide recommendations for future content commissioning.
- Analyse competitor content to provide recommendations to influence visibility, click-through rate and subscription acquisition.
- Research and present deep dives into trending issues being discussed online, finding ways to inform content optimisation and commissioning.
- Report daily on trending topics across search, AI and social media, pitching stories for key verticals like Business, Education and Health.
- Run newsroom training sessions on SEO basics and best practices.
Who are you?
- Exceptional writing, spelling and grammar skills
- Able to work collaboratively with stakeholders of all levels
- Genuine interest and passion for issues and current affairs affecting everyday Australians.
- Stay on top of social media trends across Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, TikTok and beyond
- Able to identify a trending story and why it would resonate with readers
- Digital newsroom experience preferred
- SEO experience preferred
