Salary from:

Plant Operator (Excavator) - Stream B Level 6 $76,326.75 per annum plus Super + Allowances ($10,868.00)

Plant Operator (Backhoe) - Stream B Level 5 $74,401.34 per annum plus Super + Allowances ($6,520.80)

We have x 2 Plant Operator positions at Logan City Council in Marsden

- Excavator
- Backhoe

Join Council's civil works team operating plant and equipment to support infrastructure maintenance, construction, and community services. You will be responsible for operating plant machinery at a medium to high skill level, undertaking routine servicing checks, completing plant inspections, and carrying out associated labouring duties as required. Working as part of a dedicated field crew, you will contribute to the delivery of quality infrastructure outcomes while maintaining a strong focus on safety, teamwork and customer service.

Position responsibilities include:

- Operate a range of medium plant and heavy vehicles to support construction, maintenance, and infrastructure works.
- Carry out excavation, earthmoving, loading, and related civil works activities in accordance with plans and specifications.
- Conduct pre-start inspections, routine maintenance checks, and ensure the safe and correct use of plant and equipment.
- Follow all workplace health, safety, environmental, and operational procedures to maintain a secure work environment.
- Identify, report, and assist in managing workplace hazards, risks, incidents, and equipment defects.
- Work collaboratively with supervisors and team members to deliver work programs efficiently and effectively.
- Maintain accurate records and complete required documentation, including plant checklists, logbooks, and timesheets.
- Support team capability and workforce development by sharing knowledge, assisting with training, and contributing to a positive team culture.

Key indicators for success:

Required for both roles:

- Demonstrated experience operating backhoe or excavator and other heavy plant and equipment within road construction and maintenance environments.
- You'll need a current ticket for the machine you'll be operating
- Current Australian "C" Class Driver Licence (required).
- General Safety Induction Card (Construction Industry) White Card (required).




- Ability to undertake manual labouring tasks associated with road and drainage construction and maintenance activities.
- Ability to read and interpret plans and carry out levelling activities using simple levelling devices or GPS control systems.
- Applicants must undergo a pre-employment functional assessment and be assessed as being able to meet the functional requirements of the position (required).

Additional for the Plant Operator (Backhoe) (Level 5):

- Current Backhoe ticket.
- Current MR licence (or higher class).

Additional for the Plant Operator (Excavator) (Level 6):

- Current Excavator Ticket.
- Current HR licence (or higher).

Desirable for both roles:

- Certificate III in Civil Construction, Traffic Management qualifications, First Aid Certificate and basic computer skills.
