Salary Range: Base Salary LGO4 $86,720 per annum + super
Location: Townsville

About the Role:
Make a meaningful impact in community sport, recreation and open spaces.
We are seeking a motivated and community-focused Sport & Recreation Officer to support the delivery of programs, partnerships and initiatives that help build active, thriving and sustainable sport and recreation organisations.
In this role, you will provide specialist advice, work closely with community groups and service providers, contribute to sport and recreation planning, and help deliver projects that respond to changing community needs.
More about the Role:
- Provide specialist sport and recreation advice to Council and the community.
- Support local sport and recreation organisations through programs, services and development initiatives.
- Build and maintain partnerships with community organisations, commercial service providers and collaborative networks.
- Deliver community education programs, projects and new initiatives that promote participation, wellbeing and prevention strategies.
- Contribute to strategies, masterplans, project scopes, studies and policies relating to sport, recreation, play and open space.
- Prepare reports, briefs and presentations in response to complex issues and community needs.
About you
- You have demonstrated experience supporting a positive safety culture and working within health and safety management systems.
- You bring experience in community development, sport and recreation planning, project management, program delivery and evaluation.
- You can engage effectively with community groups, sporting clubs, government departments and diverse stakeholders.
- You have robust research,
analytical and problem-solving skills and can identify gaps, needs and trends.
- You communicate clearly and professionally, including preparing reports, correspondence and submissions.
- You are self-motivated, organised and able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- You hold a current Queensland “C” class driver’s licence.
Desirable
A tertiary qualification in sport and recreation, health, community development or a related discipline is desirable. Considerable experience in a similar community development role will also be considered.

* The Council contribution to employees' superannuation for contributing employees shall be 13.5% of the employees' ordinary time earnings subject to the employee contributing a minimum of 6% of their ordinary time earnings.
