● Cloudscape, now proudly part of the John Deere family
● Sell seriously cool software for heavy construction projects on a global scale
● Highly connected, fun, social team
Cloudscape, part of the John Deere family, is a small Australasian team on a rapid growth trajectory. Building seriously cool software for heavy construction projects on a global scale, this is your opportunity to get involved.
What Cloudscape can offer:
Cloudscape, proudly part of the John Deere family, is a rapidly expanding Australasian team building seriously cool software for heavy construction projects on a global scale. Their flagship product, The Virtual Superintendent (www.thevirtualsuperintendent.com), is revolutionising how construction projects are managed and executed.
Think International Airports, 10km long road tunnels under large cities, 30km long motorways, etc. These are just a few examples of the projects customers currently trust Cloudscape to help construct.
So how did Cloudscape find itself in such a great company, making and selling software that large multinational companies trust to use on these mega projects? The answer is a bit of a cliche.... They have a seriously good development team with a ton of industry experience in an industry that is crying out for high-quality B2B software applications. Sound like something you want to be a part of?
About the Role
The Sales Engineer is the technical heart of the account team, and spans the full customer lifecycle — not just the pitch. At the pre-sales stage, you own the proof: running product demonstrations that connect what the platform does to the specific job and pain of each user on site. Once the Sales Rep signs a new account, you stay involved helping with implementation and onboarding, then providing ongoing product support, training, and identifying upsell and cross-sell opportunities as relationships deepen. You'll also be the one who finds the next opportunity inside an account already in the door, identifying additional users and use cases by using the relationships you build with the people actually using the product day to day.
Thousands of Tier 2, 3 and 4 contractors nationally already use the platform as subcontractors on the Tier 1 mega projects. They know the product and use it weekly; almost none of them are paying accounts yet. Your job is to make the value of converting to a full account undeniable, one demonstration and one use case at a time — and then make sure that value keeps compounding long after the deal is signed.
This is fundamentally a consultative role,
not a features-and-functions demo job. The strongest candidates will genuinely understand each customer's needs and problems on-site, and connect the platform's capability to solving them selling and upselling based on real understanding of the customer's world, not a fixed script.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-sales
• Run product demonstrations tailored to the specific role and pain points of each prospect or user — engineers, foremen, commercial teams and project managers all see the platform differently
• Translate platform capability (geospatial and satellite data, machine telemetry, cost and production feeds) into concrete value for the person in front of you
• Support the Sales Representative through the pre-sales process as the technical voice in the room
Post-sale
• Help with implementation and onboarding once an account signs, working alongside the Onboarding Manager to get new users to real value fast
• Provide ongoing product support and training to keep users confident and engaged with the platform
• Identify and develop upsell and cross-sell opportunities inside existing accounts, using relationships formed in office and genuine business acumen about where the customer could get more value
Team and playbook
• Work as part of a small account team alongside a Sales Representative and an Onboarding Manager, rather than as a standalone technical resource
• Help build the technical sales and support playbook for a segment that hasn't been sold to before — there's no established script to follow, so you'll need to be a self-starter who works things out rather than an order-taker waiting to be told what to do
• Travel weekly within your city to visit customers, with roughly one day every two weeks in person with the wider team
To Be Successful in This Role, You Will Have
• A genuinely consultative sales mindset - you listen first, understand what the customer actually needs and where they're struggling, and sell and upsell based on that understanding, not a formula
• Strong business acumen, with the ability to spot and develop upsell opportunities as you understand more about how a customer's operation works
• A self-starting, proactive approach - someone who takes a problem away, works out how to solve it, and comes back with an answer, rather than an order-taker
• A Civil Engineering, Surveying, or Construction background, strong enough to speak credibly to site-based technical teams - you understand the construction end product really well
• This is a great fit for a civil engineer or surveyor looking for a career change or pivot into a new type of role - taking deep technical and industry knowledge and applying it in a customer-facing, commercial capacity
• The ability to go beyond describing what you've used a piece of software for - we're looking for someone who can point to real value they've unlocked, or improvements and opportunities they've identified, for themselves, a client, or another user
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to build genuine rapport with clients - a great communicator who customers trust and enjoy working with
• Comfortable engaging directly and informally with Australian site-based contractors - able to hold your own, think on your feet, and build rapport quickly in a straight-talking environment
• A great fit for someone with genuine on-the-ground Australian or New Zealand construction experience, who's looking for a role that lets them stay close to home rather than travel or relocate for work
• Experience in a solutions engineering, sales engineering, or technical pre-sales capacity, ideally in SaaS or hi-tech (not essential if your industry and communication credentials are strong)
• Comfort covering the full account lifecycle - equally at home running a pre-sales demo and supporting a customer post-implementation
• Genuine conviction that the industry deserves better information - this can be a long sell to people who've been burned by software before
• Comfort operating with autonomy and ambiguity in a small, fast-growing team, balanced with the stability of a global parent company
• A collaborative, team-oriented approach - energised by an emerging playbook rather than looking for a mature process to inherit
• Excellent energy - someone who brings genuine enthusiasm into every client conversation
• Australian residency or valid AU work visa, and current residence in Australia (essential)
Compensation and Deal Profile
• Variable compensation component, combining quarterly sales targets with behavioural KPIs that reflect the account being worked as a team rather than by one person alone
