A varied and compelling role involving a unique combination of routine clinical and shelter nursing duties. Key responsibilities
Perform general nursing duties including assisting veterinarians with foster care consultations, shelter animal health checks, providing treatment to hospitalised patients, and managing daily procedures
Perform surgical nursing duties including monitoring patients under general anaesthesia
Approach patient treatment and care with compassion and the use of fear-free nursing techniques to support the animals' welfare
Run laboratory tests using the fully equipped in-house laboratory
Assist the Practice Manager with administrative tasks including inventory management and equipment maintenance
Assist with training and support of junior staff, non-veterinary staff, students and volunteers
Participate in community education programs, animal welfare events and fundraising campaigns
About you
Cert IV in Veterinary Nursing or equivalent veterinary nursing qualification
At least 3 years nursing experience
Strong nursing skills covering all aspects of medical and surgical veterinary care
A commitment to or willingness to integrate fear-free handling
A passion for companion animal welfare and an understanding of the human-animal bond
A desire to continually promote companion animal welfare through education and support of the community
A positive outlook and willingness to be involved in all aspects of the organisation
The ability to work closely with a team as well as autonomously
Experience working in the animal welfare field will be highly regarded
