About the role The Trainee Property Manager plays a vital role in supporting the management of residential and community housing at Kurrawang Aboriginal Christian Community (KACC). The role involves assisting with tenancy management, rent collection, property inspections, and maintenance coordination while learning the broader responsibilities of property management. This position also has a community development focus — providing training and shadowing prospects for local community members to gain skills in housing management, administration, and trades.
Key responsibilities
Assist in the preparation of tenancy agreements, renewals, and associated documentation.
Support tenant onboarding, including culturally respectful inductions and explaining lease conditions clearly.
Monitor rent payments, assist with arrears management, and shadow the supervisor on how to implement payment plans with tenants when needed.
Implement the maintenance and improvement grant program funded through Housing Australia Future Fund.
Schedule and conduct regular property inspections with respect for tenants' privacy and cultural practices.
Log maintenance requests with supervisor and learn how to troubleshoot issues and liaise with contractors, local trades, and community members where possible.
Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance works, and compliance matters.
Be a first point of contact for tenant queries and escalate issues when necessary.
Support resolution of complaints or disputes in a qualified, respectful, and culturally sensitive manner.
Maintain accurate tenancy, rent, and property records in the housing management system.
About you
High school completion or equivalent.
Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, email, databases).
Interest in property management, housing, or community work.
Commitment to cultural respect and learning.
Robust organisational and time-management skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to engage respectfully with Aboriginal tenants and community members.
Conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
Culturally aware, patient, and community-focused.
Willingness to learn and grow into a property management role.
