NAB (National Australia Bank) is recruiting a Senior Legal Counsel on a contract basis to be embedded within both its Technology Legal team and the ubank digital banking team, based in Sydney, NSW, Australia. The role focuses on providing strategic, business-focused legal advice on technology procurement, cloud agreements, commercial contracts, and process innovation initiatives supporting ubank's digital-first banking platform.

Key Eligibility Criteria

Admitted to practice law in Australia
n
Minimum 5 years PQE at a law firm, relevant in-house role, or a combination thereof
n
Proven experience advising on technology legal issues, prudential standards, contract interpretation,



and disputes
n
Robust relationship-building skills to integrate with both the ubank and Technology Legal teams
n
Ability to operate with a high degree of autonomy; independently manage workload, negotiations, and drafting
n
Effective communication skills to engage across technical and business stakeholders at all levels
n
Excellent organisational skills including prioritisation and time management
n

Responsibilities & Scope of Work

n

n
Lead negotiation of technology and commercial agreements, including major cloud agreements
n
Provide strategic legal advice on contract interpretation and disputes
n
Support simplification and process improvement initiatives within ubank and the legal function, including AI integration and offshore workforce matters
n
Advise on ubank's procurement, technology strategy, and implementation from a legal perspective
n
Contribute to making NAB and ubank systems and processes more agile and creative
n
