About the Role
Green Light is seeking an experienced VMware Engineer to support a major Federal Government program in Canberra.
This role will support the Design Authority and Engineering Manager in assessing architectures, security controls, and technical solutions for infrastructure and hardware integration across complex enterprise environments.
You will provide technical leadership across VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) platforms, ensuring infrastructure solutions are secure, scalable, and aligned with operational and project requirements.
Responsibilities
Provide reporting and analysis of current and future-state infrastructure platforms, systems, and hardware
Assess infrastructure architectures, security controls, and technical solutions to ensure alignment with project and operational requirements
Lead the design, specification, selection, and development of infrastructure and virtualisation solutions
Coordinate subsystem design and integration activities across complex environments
Identify, analyse, and resolve infrastructure and system support deficiencies
Work across multiple projects and stakeholder groups, providing technical leadership and advisory services
Collaborate with vendors to evaluate products, support technology selection, and assist in implementation activities
Translate business and technical requirements into integrated and automated technology solutions
Ensure infrastructure deliverables are aligned to project schedules and deliver value-for-money outcomes
Develop and maintain architecture and engineering artefacts including:
High-Level Designs (HLDs)
System Configuration Documentation
Build Guides
Scripts and Playbooks
Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Quality Assurance Plans
Provide Technical Assurance, Objective Quality Evidence,
and training material reviews
Support continual improvement initiatives and provide recommendations on emerging technologies and infrastructure capabilities
Undertake additional engineering and design activities as required
Required Skills & Experience
Strong hands-on experience with the VMware product suite, including:
VMware NSX
VMware Aria Operations
VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle
VMware vRealize Log Insight (vRLI)
VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF)
VMware ESXi
VMware vCenter
VMware vSAN
VMware SDDC Manager
Workspace ONE Access (vIDM)
Experience designing and supporting enterprise-grade virtualisation and cloud platforms
Solid understanding of infrastructure security, integration, and operational requirements
Experience producing technical design documentation and architecture artefactsStrong understanding of infrastructure automation, orchestration, and lifecycle management
Ability to work effectively across multiple projects and stakeholder groups
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
