Senior Data Engineer – GCP / Data Foundations

We're looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join a major data transformation program within a large enterprise organisation.
n
The organisation is investing heavily in its data capability and foundations, with a focus on building scalable, reliable and high-performing data solutions that will support analytics, reporting and broader business initiatives.
n
This is a hands‐on engineering role with a strong focus on GCP, BigQuery, SQL and data modelling, working within an established Agile delivery environment.
n
What you'll be doing:
n
n
Design and build scalable data platforms, databases, schemas and data models within a complex enterprise environment
n
Develop and optimise data solutions across the GCP data ecosystem
n
Build robust data pipelines and transformations using BigQuery, SQL and dbt
n
Design data models that are performant, maintainable and fit for purpose
n
Implement new database fields, structures and data capabilities across a large organisation
n
Ensure data solutions are reliable, scalable and high performing, with a strong focus on query performance
n
Apply modern data engineering and ELT best practices across ingestion, transformation and modelling
n
Work closely with Data Analysts, Engineers and business stakeholders to translate requirements into effective technical solutions
n
Contribute to data quality, governance and engineering standards
n




Help establish strong data foundations that can scale with the organisation's future needs

What we're looking for:
n
We're looking for a Data Engineer first and foremost, with strong experience building data foundations within cloud environments.
n
You'll ideally have:
n
n
Solid commercial experience as a Senior Data Engineer in a complex or enterprise environment
n
Strong hands‐on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
n
Excellent SQL skills, including query optimisation and performance tuning
n
Strong experience with BigQuery
n
Deep understanding of data modelling, database design and schema design
n
Experience building scalable and reliable data pipelines
n
Hands‐on experience with dbt / dbt Core
n
Strong understanding of modern ELT and cloud data warehouse architectures
n
Experience working within Agile delivery squads
n
A track record of delivering successful data engineering implementations within large organisations
n
The ability to talk through previous implementations and explain the technical decisions, challenges and outcomes
n
A STEM, Computer Science or similarly technical background
n

Technology
n
Experience with additional GCP services and modern data tooling will be highly regarded.
n
