We have a full-time position of Veterinary Nurse in Cairns QLD, ****.

SKILL LEVEL
n
The business requires the following qualifications and experience for the Veterinary Nurses position:
n

Hold at least an AQF (or equivalent) Certificate IV; and
n
Have at least 2 years' experience (minimum of 35 hours per week).

RESPONSIBILITIES OVERVIEW
n
The Emergency Veterinary Nurse is responsible for providing comprehensive care to animals under treatment in a fast-paced, critical care environment. This role involves supporting veterinarians during examinations and surgeries, ensuring the cleanliness and sterility of the veterinary facility, and managing the recovery and well-being of animals' post-surgery.
n
The Veterinary Nurse also plays a key role in client communication, offering guidance and emotional support to pet owners while maintaining accurate medical records and participating in ongoing training and emergency drills.
n
REPORTS TO
n
You will be required to report to the Nurse Manager & RSO and the Practice Manager.
n
POSITION DUTIES
n
You will need to undertake the following duties:
n
n
Assist veterinarians during examinations and surgical procedures, including the preparation and handling of instruments and administering anaesthesia and holding the animals to ensure procedures can be completed smoothly and safely.
n
Monitor animals during recovery, administer medications, and ensure their comfort and safety.
n
Perform diagnostic tests and provide necessary post-operative care.
n
Maintain a clean, sterile workplace by cleaning and sterilising equipment, examination tables, and surgical areas.
n
Manage stock control and maintain accurate records of treatments and supplies.
n
Provide clear and compassionate communication with pet owners regarding their pets' treatment and care plans.
n
Offer animal care advice and contribute to the preparation and delivery of educational programs.
n
Participate in regular training sessions and emergency procedure drills to ensure preparedness for critical situations.
n
Support general clinic operations by handling clerical tasks, including reception duties and payment processing when needed.
n
n
REQUIRED SKILLS
n
n
Experience in emergency and critical care is preferred but not essential.
n
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
n
Ability to work in a high-pressure environment and handle stressful situations calmly.
n
Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
n
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
n
Proficiency in using veterinary practice management software.
n
Commitment to continuous professional development and learning.
n

SALARY
n
The successful applicant will receive a salary from $75,000 to $85,000 based on qualification and experience.
