Job Description
Geochemists - Graduate through to Senior
n
My client is a well-established, specialist Geochemistry focused consultancy servicing the mining and resources sector in Australia and internationally.
n
They are not a big multidisciplinary firm where geochemistry is a side offering. It is what they do, and they are recognised globally for it and have longstanding relationships and repeat business with a range of clients due to quality work and reputation. They have been around for decades and developed a number of the test methods now used across the industry.
n
Due to their strong forward pipeline of contracted work, they are expanding and are currently recruiting several geochemists at various levels from Graduate to Senior.
n
What you would be doing
n
n
Geochemical assessments of mine and infrastructure projects, from compiling geological and assay data through to interpreting what it means for materials management and closure
n
Designing sampling programmes, then preparing and managing the laboratory test programmes that follow
n
Assessing ARD and NMD potential and building the management plans around it
n
Contributing to project approvals, PRCP submissions and closure plans
n
Working across the full project life, from exploration and feasibility through operations to closure, rather than being stuck at one stage
n
Site visits and field sampling
n
Supporting the water services team on hydrology and hydrogeology work
n
Writing the technical reports that go to clients and regulators
n
n
What you will need
n
n
A degree in geology, chemistry, environmental geochemistry or similar
n
Experience in environmental consulting or with a mining company
n
An understanding of material characterisation, including static and kinetic leachate data
n
Good technical writing
n
Experience in software such as PHREEQC or similar, and GIS, are useful but not essential
n
n
My client is flexible on background and whilst Geology or chemistry is the usual route, they have people who came in from other backgrounds - time on a mine site, and understanding how a site actually runs, is regarded.
n
You also do not need to have been a consultant - if you are doing this work inside a mining company and fancy the move, they are interested in chatting.
n
What's on offer
n
n
Good salary, negotiable depending on your experience (call for a confidential chat)
n
An annual bonus on top of base salary, at every level
n
Perth or Brisbane, whichever suits you (other locations also considered)
n
Real international work. They operate in more than 30 countries and are not contstrained by geography, so a Perth-based geochemist might spend time on projects in Asia or Africa
n
Multi-commodity work with clients ranging from juniors to the majors, so you are not tied to one commodity or one account
n
They are expanding, including a current arm overseas, so there is room to move up rather than wait for someone to retire
n
A clear graded structure, so you know what the next step up looks like and what it takes to get there
n
Their service lines are shaped by the people they hire. If you are strong in something and there is a business case, they will back you to build it
n
Specialists around you, including several PhD-level people, and an in-house ARD laboratory
n
Genuine technical mentoring from people who have spent their whole careers in this niche
n
Small enough that you are not a number. Direct access to the principals and a real say in how the work gets done
n
Plenty of the work is advice, interpretation and building management plans with clients, not just sitting behind a bench
n
City based, not FIFO or residential. Site travel comes up a few times a year, in blocks of a week or two
n
Hybrid working with set office days, and support for conferences, professional development and training
n
A friendly, relaxed environment and a genuinely good team culture
n
A well-established, stable and growing company with an exciting pipeline of work ahead
