Description
The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) (RFDS) is seeking an enthusiastic and proactive
Media and Communications Officer
to join our Fundraising and Engagement team.
Reporting to the
Media and Content Manager
, you'll play a hands‐on role in identifying, developing and sharing compelling stories that highlight the impact of RFDS services across Queensland.
You'll work across media relations, content development and reputation management to drive awareness, engagement and trust in the Flying Doctor brand.
This is an exciting
permanent, full‐time
opportunity for a communications professional who enjoys building relationships, uncovering stories and seeing their work make a genuine difference.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and deliver proactive media stories that showcase the impact of RFDS services across Queensland
Prepare media releases, statements, briefing notes, talking points and media responses
Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, media contacts and internal stakeholders
Coordinate media opportunities, interviews, events and campaign activities
Manage and respond to media enquiries and assist with reputation and issues management
Monitor media coverage, emerging issues and social media activity to identify opportunities and risks
Create, adapt and distribute engaging content across media, digital, web and social channels
Support the reporting and analysis of media activity, reach and sentiment
Work collaboratively with teams across Fundraising & Engagement and the broader business to align media activity with broader organisational initiatives.

About You
You're a natural storyteller who enjoys connecting people with meaningful stories and outcomes.
Coming from a journalism, media relations, public relations or communications background, you excel in fast‐paced environments and embrace the variety that comes with no two days being the same.
To be successful in this role, you'll demonstrate:
Experience in media relations, communications, journalism or public relations
Exceptional writing, editing and verbal communication skills
The ability to identify and develop compelling stories and media opportunities
Strong relationship‐building skills and confidence engaging with stakeholders at all levels
Resilience, initiative and the ability to work through challenges to achieve outcomes
Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
Sound judgement and an understanding of reputation management, privacy and sensitive communications
A collaborative approach and willingness to support broader team objectives.
What You'll Bring
A degree in Marketing, Communications, Media, Public Relations, Journalism or equivalent experience
Approximately 3-5 years' relevant industry experience
Experience developing media releases, media pitches and communication materials




Exposure to media monitoring platforms, content management systems, social media channels or CRM systems such as HubSpot will be highly regarded
Experience within healthcare, emergency services, not-for-profit organisations, regional media or community‐focused environments will be highly desirable.
