About the branch
The Corporate Services branch plays a crucial role in enabling VGSO's overall success by providing essential support and strategic guidance to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.
Balancing an appreciation of the complexities and nuances of the public sector, along with the requirements of operating in a competitive legal services environment, the branch delivers proactive, effective and efficient services to VGSO's internal and external clients.
Through its work, the Corporate Services branch fosters a cohesive and supportive environment that encourages innovation, continuous improvement, and a client-centric approach.
Functionally, the following business areas are included within the Corporate Services branch:
* Office of the Chief Operating Officer (Strategy and Governance)
* Financial Planning and Analysis
* Technology and Knowledge Management
* Client Insights and Communications
About the role
As the Senior Manager, Financial Control, you will provide strategic leadership and oversight of the Victorian Government Solicitor's Office's financial control, governance, compliance and reporting functions.
Reporting to the Head of Finance & Analysis,



in this newly created role you will lead VGSO's financial control function and play a key role in maintaining the integrity, governance and stewardship of the organisation's financial management framework.
You will provide expert advice to senior leaders on financial control, reporting, compliance and audit matters, supporting informed decision-making and VGSO's long-term financial sustainability.
Leading a specialist team, you will drive excellence across financial reporting, governance, compliance, risk management and financial operations, while identifying opportunities to strengthen systems, controls and organisational capability.
Key responsibilities include:
* Leading VGSO's financial control, governance and compliance functions.
* Ensuring compliance with accounting standards, financial reporting directions and legislative obligations.
* Overseeing month-end, half-year and year-end financial reporting and audit processes.
* Providing strategic advice to the Executive Leadership Team on financial governance, risk and assurance matters.
* Maintaining oversight of financial systems, controls, balance sheet governance and reporting integrity.
* Leading financial improvement and transformation initiatives that enhance organisational performance and accountability.
* Developing and supporting a high-performing team committed to service excellence and continuous improvement.

Skills and experience
We are looking for an experienced and collaborative finance leader who brings:
* Significant experience leading financial control, reporting and governance functions within a complex organisation.
* Strong technical expertise in financial accounting, financial reporting and the application of accounting standards.
* Experience managing internal and external audits and implementing effective control and assurance frameworks.
* Demonstrated success in establishing governance, risk management and internal control frameworks.




* Outstanding stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across all levels of an organisation.
* Strong analytical and strategic thinking capability, with experience providing authoritative advice on complex financial issues.
* Proven experience leading change, continuous improvement and finance transformation initiatives.
* Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present complex financial information clearly and confidently to executive audiences.
* Demonstrated people leadership experience, with a focus on developing capability, fostering collaboration and achieving results.
* Advanced capability in financial modelling, business intelligence and financial systems.
Experience in a professional services and/or government environment will be highly regarded, as will experience with Oracle, Axiom or similar enterprise financial systems.
