Position: Civil Engineering Draftsperson Type: Full time Employer: Fcen Victoria Pty.
Ltd.
Location: Doncaster East VIC **** Salary: $80,000 per annum About the Business Fcen Victoria Pty.
Ltd. is an Australian construction and engineering consultancy that provides a complete, ground-up service to builders, developers, owners' corporations and private clients across Victoria and New South Wales, delivering structural design, civil and stormwater drainage design, dilapidation inspections and reporting, forensic engineering and dispute resolution, building and heritage assessments, vibration and noise monitoring, and NatHERS energy efficiency assessments from a single point of contact.
The business has built its reputation on technically rigorous documentation, practical and commercially sensible advice, and a willingness to stay involved from concept through to construction, which is why so much of its work comes from repeat clients and referrals within the residential and commercial building sector.
Fcen Victoria operates on the values of accuracy, accountability and straightforward communication, treating compliance with the National Construction Code and Australian Standards as the baseline rather than the objective.
The workplace is a close-knit, collaborative professional environment in which drafters, engineers and assessors work side by side on live projects, technical knowledge is shared openly rather than siloed, individual initiative is recognised, and staff are supported to broaden their capability across the full range of the firm's disciplines.
About the Position The Civil Engineering Draftsperson is responsible for producing the civil and stormwater drainage documentation that underpins the firm's residential and commercial projects, translating engineers' design intent, site survey information and client requirements into accurate, fully coordinated and code-compliant drawing sets suitable for council approval, tender and construction.
Working closely with the firm's civil and structural engineers, the role covers the full documentation cycle — setting up drawing sets, modelling site levels and drainage layouts, detailing pits, pipes, grading and pavement works, preparing quantity take-offs, and managing revisions through to issued-for-construction status — while liaising with builders, surveyors, architects and local authorities to resolve queries as they arise.
Because Fcen Victoria positions itself as a one-stop consultancy, the quality and timeliness of this documentation directly determines whether client projects secure approval and proceed on programme,

making the Civil Engineering Draftsperson central to the firm's delivery capability and to the professional standard for which it is known.
Key Responsibilities Prepare detailed civil engineering drawings, plans, layouts and details for residential and commercial projects, including stormwater drainage, site grading, earthworks, pavements, driveways, retaining structures and associated civil infrastructure.
Interpret and apply engineers' design intent, sketches and mark-ups, converting them into complete, coordinated drawing sets suitable for council submission, tender and construction.
Perform routine design calculations and checks to determine the size, shape, levels, falls, capacities and quantities required for civil and drainage elements.
Produce stormwater drainage designs including pipe sizing and layout, pit schedules, invert and surface levels, longitudinal sections, on-site detention and water sensitive urban design elements.
Interpret and apply the National Construction Code, relevant Australian Standards (including AS/NZS **** and AS ******), Australian Rainfall and Runoff, and the drainage and civil requirements of local councils and water authorities.
Review and incorporate survey data, geotechnical information, architectural drawings and structural documentation, identifying discrepancies and clashes and resolving them with the responsible engineer or consultant.
Set up, maintain and manage CAD files, drawing registers, layering standards, title blocks and templates in accordance with the firm's documentation standards.
Prepare quantity take-offs and estimates of materials for civil and drainage works to support fee proposals, client budgets and construction estimates.
Manage drawing revisions and issue history, ensuring superseded documentation is controlled and that all issued drawings are current, correctly numbered and properly recorded.
Assist with site investigations, site measure-ups, dilapidation inspections and post-construction checks, and incorporate findings into the documentation.
Respond to requests for information from builders, site supervisors, certifiers and council officers, and prepare amended drawings and mark-ups where design changes or approval conditions require them.
Coordinate documentation with the firm's structural, forensic and energy assessment work so that drawing sets issued to clients are consistent across disciplines.

Assist in the preparation of technical reports, supporting sketches, exhibits and figures for engineering reports and approval submissions.
Maintain accurate project records, file notes and drawing archives, and contribute to the continuous improvement of the firm's drafting standards, templates and detail libraries.
Undertake other reasonable duties consistent with the role as directed by the supervising engineer or director.
Requirements Australian citizens and permanent residents are encouraged to apply.
A minimum AQF Associate Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction, Drafting or a related field.
At least 2–3 years of experience as a civil drafter or in a related field, preferably in residential construction.
Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD, with working knowledge of Civil 3D, 12d Model, Revit or comparable civil design and modelling software.
Practical ability to produce stormwater drainage design documentation, including pipe and pit layouts, levels, falls, longitudinal sections and on-site detention details.
Sound working knowledge of the National Construction Code, relevant Australian Standards and typical Victorian council and water authority drainage requirements.
Ability to read, interpret and coordinate architectural, structural and survey drawings, and to identify and resolve discrepancies between disciplines.
Competence in performing routine engineering calculations, quantity take-offs and materials estimates.
Familiarity with drawing management, revision control and documentation issue procedures.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook, for schedules, registers and project correspondence.
A high level of accuracy and attention to detail, with the discipline to check work thoroughly before issue.
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, including the ability to correspond professionally with engineers, builders, surveyors, certifiers and council officers.
Effective time management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage several concurrent projects and meet competing deadlines.
A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively within a small, multidisciplinary professional team.
Sound problem-solving skills, initiative and the confidence to raise issues early rather than work around them.
A commitment to workplace health and safety and to compliance with the firm's quality and documentation procedures.
The right to work in Australia on a full-time basis.
How to Apply To apply, applicants must submit their resume with a valid email address through this online portal.
Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
