This is a permanent part-time position working three days per week, offering genuine flexibility for an experienced lawyer seeking to maintain a rewarding legal career within a outstanding business.
The Role Reporting directly into senior management, the appointed candidate will take on a broad and commercially focused in-house legal role covering generalist legal, regulatory and governance matters across the business.
They will act as a trusted legal adviser to the CEO, Board and wider management team and will provide practical advice across commercial contracts, funds management, lending and property investment activities.
Key responsibilities will include: Providing practical and commercially focused legal advice to management and the Board.
Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a broad range of commercial agreements.
Supporting private credit, lending and property investment transactions Reviewing and updating investor and fund documentation.
Advising on AFSL, managed investment scheme and broader financial services regulatory requirements.
Supporting the company's compliance and risk framework.
Monitoring regulatory developments and advising management on relevant changes.
Managing external legal advisers where specialist advice is required.
Supporting Board and governance processes.
Assisting with corporate matters, strategic projects and other legal issues as they arise.
This broad remit also includes the opportunity for the successful candidate to help the business develop exposure to areas such as AML/CTF compliance, company secretarial and broader governance responsibilities, although prior experience in these areas is not essential.
This then is a genuinely hands-on role where the successful candidate will be a trusted voice within the business.
Using sound judgement they will work autonomously and as a business enabler, to provide practical advice to a responsive audience.
Your Profile You will be an experienced Australian lawyer with a current practising certificate and ideally circa 5 or more years' post-admission experience, gained within financial services, funds management, lending, property or another regulated or allied environment.
In addition, you will bring: Strong commercial legal experience,
including contract drafting and negotiation An understanding of AFSL and financial services regulatory obligations Exposure to funds management, managed investment schemes or investment/lending structures Strong commercial judgement and the ability to provide pragmatic, solutions-focused advice Experience working with senior executives, Boards and external advisers Excellent written and verbal communication skills The confidence to operate autonomously within a boutique environment In addition to the above, some experience across compliance or company secretarial matters would be advantageous but is not essential.
