Water Network Planning Engineer

We are seeking a Water Network Planning Engineer to join our Water Planning team where your contributions will directly impact our major infrastructure projects.

The Opportunity

As a Water Network Planning Engineer, you will help shape the future of Hunter Water's drinking water network by planning for safe, reliable and efficient services that support our customers, community and sustainable regional growth. Working across network strategy, investment planning, hydraulic modelling, risk assessment and infrastructure development, you will influence major decisions that balance customer outcomes, regulatory compliance, growth, resilience and value for money.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Develop and deliver medium to long-term drinking water network plans, strategies and investment options to address growth, capacity, reliability and service requirements.
- Analyse network performance, demand forecasts, risks and operational challenges to identify and prioritise improvement opportunities.
- Utilise and interpret water network models, including hydraulic modelling outputs, to support evidence-based planning decisions.
- Prepare business cases, technical reports, presentations and recommendations to support investment and planning outcomes.




- Provide technical advice to stakeholders and contribute to the continuous improvement of planning processes, systems, governance and methodologies

What you'll need to be successful:

Essential Criteria:

- Degree qualification in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline, supported by relevant professional experience.
- Extensive experience in water infrastructure planning, asset planning, operations, design or a related field.
- Ability to use and interpret water network models, data and technical information to support strategic planning decisions.
- Highly developed analytical skills, including the ability to assess network performance, risks, demand, growth and service outcomes.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and project coordination skills, with the ability to prepare and communicate clear technical reports and recommendations.

Desirable Criteria:

- Experience using Info Works WS Pro or other water network modelling platforms.
- Experience preparing business cases, investment options or infrastructure upgrade strategies.
- Understanding of drinking water quality regulation, operational risks and water management systems.
- Advanced spatial / data skills that support water network planning and decision-making.
- Demonstrated strategic, innovative or lateral thinking, with the ability to identify practical improvement opportunities.
