About the Department
The department provides a wide range of learning and development support and services.
The department provides policy leadership, plans for the future of education in Victoria and leads key cross-sector collaboration. The department plays an important system steward role by providing support, guidance, oversight and assurance across early childhood and school education systems, as well as directly providing school education and 50 new early learning centres.
About the Division
School Performance Division compromises two interrelated branches: School Performance Branch and Priority Programs Branch. Both branches leverage strong partnerships with the regional workforce in the delivery of their work.
School Performance Branch
The School Performance Branch leads statewide coordination of frameworks and initiatives for improving the performance of government schools. This includes overseeing the Framework for Improving Student Outcomes 2.0 and associated processes including School Strategic Plans, Annual Implementations Plans and School Annual Reporting and School Reviews. It also includes oversight of tailored support for schools, through the Intensive School Support initiative.
Priority Programs Branch
The Priority Programs Branch leads initiatives that support improved student performance and outcomes for students who need additional support in literacy and numeracy and high-ability students. This includes the Literacy and Numeracy Early Intervention Program, Middle Years Literacy and Numeracy Support, the Student Excellence Program, Area Principal Forums, School Networks, Professional Learning Communities and a range of other targeted programs.
About the Role
The Senior Program Advisor supports the delivery and oversight the Government Schools Principals Conference.
This is a full-time, fixed term role based in East Melbourne,
with flexible working arrangements available.
Key accountabilities
The role will be responsible for, but not limited to:
- supporting the planning, implementation and monitoring of the GSPC
- contributing to the development of guidance, resources and other materials to support implementation
- preparing briefs, correspondence, presentations and other written materials, with attention to quality and accuracy
- monitoring project milestones, risks and issues, and supporting timely delivery of agreed outcomes
- assisting with budget tracking, forecasting updates and procurement activities in line with departmental policies and procedures
- using data, evidence and feedback to inform advice, planning and continuous improvement
- working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to support effective delivery of the GSPC
Attributes
The successful applicant will demonstrate strong project support and organisational skills, sound judgement, and the ability to manage competing priorities. They will also bring well-developed written communication skills, solid attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Experience in using data and evidence to inform work, along with an understanding of government processes, will be highly regarded.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience
A relevant tertiary qualification.
Experience in delivery of programs within the public service preferred.
