Commonwealth Bank Of Australia

Sydney

- Shape data-control uplift across complex Financial Crime systems
- Partner with technology, data, product and risk teams through major change
- Provide trusted technical guidance from design through to production readiness

See Yourself in the Team

The Financial Crime Data Centre of Excellence (CoE) provides the data leadership, governance and delivery capability underpinning CommBank’s Financial Crime and broader Economic Crime operations. Operating within a large and complex environment of multiple crews and squads, they ensure critical Financial Crime data is complete, accurate, timely and secure, enabling the bank to meet regulatory obligations while strengthening its ability to detect, prevent and disrupt financial crime.

Operating at the intersection of data, risk, technology and transformation, the CoE also owns the strategy and roadmap for Financial Crime data products, working across domains to simplify data flows, improve reuse of enterprise data assets, reduce duplication and create trusted sources of information for screening, monitoring, investigations, reporting and decision-making. They set mandatory data control standards, oversees data quality and risk management, drive remediation of control gaps, and partner with technology and delivery crews to ensure new systems and data products are designed with the right controls from inception through to production.

With responsibility spanning hundreds of practitioners and numerous delivery crews, the team provides expertise, governance, assurance and coordination across Financial Crime initiatives, helping the organisation move towards a more intelligence-led Economic Crime capability.

Your Impact & Contribution

As Senior Manager, Data Controls, you’ll sit at the centre of this work, partnering with delivery teams to help translate mandatory data-control requirements into practical, actionable expectations while maintaining clear accountability between control governance and delivery. You’ll act as the primary point of contact for delivery crews as they design, build and implement new or changed systems. You’ll provide technical guidance on applicable data-control requirements, review Data Impact Assessments,

challenge gaps and ensure material control requirements are appropriately reflected within change governance and CMRS processes. You’ll maintain a consolidated view of progress across multiple crews and squads, identifying where uplift activity may be off track and challenging whether reported status is supported by observable evidence.

Importantly, this is a governance and advisory role rather than a delivery role.

Your expertise will help teams understand what needs to be achieved from a strategic perspective, whilst delivery crews remain accountable for determining the technical solution, implementing controls and resolving identified gaps.

You’ll be successful when delivery teams have a clear and consistent point of contact, understand the data-control requirements that apply to their change and can translate identified gaps into actionable uplift activity. Your work will help ensure:

- Relevant changes complete Data Impact Assessments early in the lifecycle
- Material data-control requirements are identified before implementation
- Data Impact Assessment outcomes are consistently reflected in change governance
- Progress reporting is explicit, consolidated and evidence-based
- Material gaps and risks are surfaced early and escalated appropriately
- Fewer control weaknesses are identified after systems move into production
- Delivery accountability remains with the crews while governance remains appropriately independent
- There is a clear transition from build-stage control uplift into ongoing production assurance

Your Skills & Experience

We’re looking for an experienced senior practitioner who can combine strong technical understanding with pragmatic stakeholder leadership. You’ll bring:

- Strong experience across data risk, data controls, technology risk, data management or change governance

- Practical understanding of how data risks emerge through system, platform and data change
- Experience reviewing risk assessments, control assessments or Data Impact Assessments
- Strong understanding of technology systems, data flows and control implementation
- Ability to interpret standards and translate them into meaningful requirements for delivery teams
- Confidence challenging delivery teams where evidence does not support reported progress or readiness
- Strong judgement when identifying material gaps, dependencies and escalation points
- Ability to work across multiple crews, squads and concurrent change initiatives
- Excellent stakeholder management across business, technology, data, product and risk functions
- Ability to provide clear technical advice without taking ownership of implementation
- Sufficient seniority and confidence to work autonomously across a broad and complex stakeholder environment

Experience within Financial Crime, financial services, regulated data environments, technology controls or large-scale control uplift programs would be highly regarded. Candidates from senior data-management, technology-risk, control-uplift or technically focused Product Manager / Product Owner backgrounds may also be well suited where they bring sufficient depth across data, controls and change governance.
