? Why Cooktown? Tell me more…

Cooktown offers an exceptional tropical lifestyle where the ancient rainforests of Cape York meet the stunning coastline of the Great Barrier Reef, creating a spectacular natural environment filled with pristine beaches, rugged mountain ranges, winding rivers and breathtaking scenery. Rich in history and culture, the town is renowned for its strong connections to First Nations communities, and welcoming country-town atmosphere, providing a unique blend of adventure, community and relaxed coastal living.

Residents enjoy a friendly close-knit community supported by quality healthcare services, schools, shopping, sporting facilities and essential amenities, while having easy access to some of Far North Queensland's most remarkable outdoor experiences. From fishing, boating and camping to hiking, four-wheel driving, birdwatching and exploring the region's waterfalls, reefs and national parks,

Cooktown offers a rewarding lifestyle where work-life balance and natural beauty go hand in hand.

? About the role:

This is an opportunity for a Senior Medical Officer/Rural Generalist with Obstetrics to make a meaningful difference to the health and wellbeing of Cape York communities while becoming a valued member of Cooktown's collaborative rural health team. Working closely with Midwifery Group Practice midwives and multidisciplinary teams, you'll deliver high-quality, woman-centred maternity care within a continuity of care model.

This rewarding role offers the opportunity to provide evidence-based clinical care, contribute to population health initiatives and support improved health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. You'll also play an important role in service improvement, teaching and mentoring junior clinicians, and fostering a culture of safety, quality and continuous learning.

Obstetric practice here calls for versatility and calm under pressure — you make a difference at life's most important moments.

? What we're looking for — someone who:

- is competent in rural and remote obstetric practice and wants their work to genuinely matter
- is respectful and community‑aware and passionate about delivering culturally safe care
- is encouraging and steady for colleagues and is broad‑skilled and adaptable

? What's on offer:

- Torres and Cape will give you a career with purpose
- Total remuneration value of $403,080–$605,965 (L13–L27)
- Base salary between $193,191–$282,912 (L13–L27) plus excellent perks and allowances
- Employer superannuation contribution of 12.75% plus salary packaging
- and more!
