About the Role

As our Lead Wildlife Veterinarian located at Wacol Wildlife Hospital, you’ll play a key role in delivering exceptional veterinary care while providing clinical guidance and support across our Wildlife Hospital team.

Working within a fast-paced and highly collaborative hospital environment, you’ll provide medical and surgical care to a diverse range of wildlife patients, as well as pet birds and reptiles. Beyond your own clinical caseload, you’ll act as a trusted source of support for other wildlife veterinarians, helping to strengthen clinical practice, share knowledge and contribute to consistently high standards of care across the hospital.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced veterinarian who wants full-time work, combine hands-on clinical work with the opportunity to support others, contribute to learning and research, and help drive positive welfare outcomes for Queensland wildlife.

What You’ll Do

In this role, you will:

- Provide high-quality medical and surgical veterinary care to wildlife patients, pet birds and reptiles.
- Provide clinical support, guidance and instruction to other wildlife veterinarians within the hospital.
- Support the training and development of veterinary students, veterinary volunteers and team members through on-the-job learning.
- Maintain high-quality medical records and contribute to strong clinical standards across the hospital.
- Develop and maintain databases to improve the tracking and monitoring of patient outcomes and laboratory results.




- Build and maintain strong relationships with wildlife carer networks and other key stakeholders.
- Work closely with internal teams including Rescue and Inspectorate, as well as wildlife rehabilitators and members of the public.
- Support the training of Animal Rescue Officers and auditing of Schedule 4 drug use in line with organisational accreditation requirements.
- Participate in approved research projects and contribute to continuous improvement across the Wildlife Hospital.
- Champion RSPCA Queensland’s values and help ensure positive welfare outcomes for every patient in our care.

What You’ll Bring to the Role

- A BVSc, DVM or equivalent veterinary qualification.
- The ability to maintain appropriate professional certificates and continuing professional development requirements.
- Strong clinical capability and the ability to confidently navigate complex veterinary cases.
- The ability to work effectively and multitask under pressure in a busy, high-volume hospital environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to provide clear guidance and support to others.
- Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and with external stakeholders.
- Excellent organisation and time management skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritise competing demands.
- Solid problem-solving skills and the ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively.
- A flexible and adaptable approach.




- A genuine interest in animal welfare and alignment with RSPCA Queensland’s vision and values.
- The physical capacity to undertake the requirements of the role, including manual handling of at least 10kg.
