Take the lead on Health, Safety and Wellbeing for the Blamey Barracks Kapooka part of the Riverina Redevelopment Project, a major Tier 1 Defence infrastructure project. Working closely with project leadership, you will drive WHS strategy, influence safety culture, and ensure the safe and compliant delivery of critical Defence infrastructure.
The Riverina Redevelopment Joint Venture is a 50/50 joint venture between CPB Contractors and Downer to undertake major upgrades and replacement of existing infrastructure and facilities to support Defence capability for the next 30 years.
The proposed project consists of a program of works across three Department of Defence establishments including:
- Albury Wodonga Military Area (including North, South & East Bandiana, Latchford Barracks, Wirlinga)
- Blamey Barracks (Kapooka)
- RAAF Base Wagga
The proposed capital investment of $2 billion will incorporate a variety of elements including:
- Construction of recent messing and living in accommodation
- Construction of new training facilities
- Refurbishment and upgrading of existing buildings
- Remedial works and upgrades to infrastructure services

The opportunity
We currently have an opportunity for a Health and Safety Manager to lead safety performance across the Blamey Barracks Kapooka Redevelopment Project. Working closely with project leadership, you will drive WHS strategy, governance and assurance, champion a positive safety culture, and provide expert guidance to ensure the safe and successful delivery of this major Tier 1 Defence infrastructure project.
What you'll do
- Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the Safety Management System and WHS Management Plan.
- Provide strategic WHS advice, coaching and support to operational leaders, project teams and contractors.
- Drive risk management, incident investigations,
corrective actions, audits and assurance activities.
- Monitor WHS performance, analyse trends and deliver reporting and improvement initiatives.
- Champion a positive safety culture, workforce wellbeing and continuous improvement across the project portfolio
What you'll bring
- 10+ years' experience in a senior WHS leadership role within construction, engineering, infrastructure, mining, transport or related industries.
- Tertiary qualifications in Safety, Environmental, Project Management, Building, Construction or a related discipline.
- Extensive knowledge of WHS legislation, risk management principles and ISO 45001 requirements.
Proven experience leading WHS teams, incident investigations, contractor management and safety assurance programs.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence senior leaders, clients and project teams to achieve positive safety outcomes.
This role is based at Blamey Barracks Kapooka, Wagga Wagga. Relocation assistance is available for the successful candidate if required. Applicants must be Australian citizens and willing to obtain a security clearance.
