About the role
As Production Manager, you'll work closely with the Project Manager and Leading Hand & take ownership of day-to-day production planning and coordination, helping tie everything together across the workshop. You'll translate project requirements and delivery dates into practical production plans, ensuring the right labour, materials, equipment, drawings and instructions are in place to deliver work safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys being in a busy workshop where no two days are ever the same & can flex between coordinating purchasing, solving production bottlenecks & improving workflow.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinating day-to-day workshop operations
- Managing production schedules and priorities
- Working with fabrication and paint teams
- Supporting purchasing and inventory management
- Coordinating with the PM to keep jobs moving
- Monitoring workflow, capacity and delivery commitments
- Leading and supporting staff across the business
- Running planning and production meetings
- Working with suppliers and subcontractors
- Identifying bottlenecks and helping improve efficiency
About you
To be successful in this role, you'll be a practical, organised and confident production professional with strong construction and fabrication knowledge. You'll understand workshop operations, lead from the front and plan ahead to ensure the team is ready to deliver.
Essential
- Proven experience as a Production Manager, Workshop Manager or similar
- Strong leadership skills and a good attitude, with experience leading people in a manufacturing, workshop or operational environment
- Ability to organise work and keep multiple priorities moving
- Someone who takes ownership and follows things through
- Practical problem-solving ability
- Strong communication skills
- Current Australian driver and forklift licences
Highly desirable
- Trade qualification/shipping container background with an extensive understanding of construction, metal fabrication and workshop operations
- Strong scheduling and resource coordination skills, with the ability to identify constraints early and adjust priorities
- Experience coordinating purchasing, materials, suppliers and subcontractors
- Working knowledge of welding, drawings, specifications and quality requirements
- Good computer and documentation skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel, WorkGuru & Monday
