About the role:
CMAX Clinical Research is looking for passionate and experienced Research Physicians to join our world-class clinical research team on a permanent full-time or permanent part-time basis (minimum 3 days per week).

Working within CMAX’s purpose-built clinical research facility, you’ll play a key role in the safe and successful conduct of Phase I and early-phase clinical trials, working alongside experienced Physicians, Principal Investigators,
Nurses and clinical research professionals.
No two days are the same. You’ll combine your clinical expertise with research, critical thinking and participant care, while gaining valuable exposure to innovative medicines and emerging healthcare treatments.
Key responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Conduct physical examinations and comprehensive medical history assessments as part of participant screening and study activities;
- Review and authorise clinical pathology results, vital signs and ECGs, identifying and responding to clinically significant findings;
- Provide high-quality medical care and clinical oversight, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of participants throughout their involvement in a study;
- Assess, document, monitor and report adverse events and medical issues in accordance with study protocols and regulatory requirements;
- Work closely with clinical and non-clinical teams to ensure study activities are conducted safely, efficiently and in accordance with Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC)-approved protocols;
- Collaborate with Clinical Research Nurses, Principal Investigators, external medical personnel and other stakeholders to support successful trial delivery;
- Contribute your medical expertise to a collaborative, fast-paced environment where clinical excellence and participant safety come first.
Senior Research Physician opportunities
Candidates appointed at Senior Research Physician level may also:
- Support Day 1 dosing and post-dose participant monitoring under the guidance of the Principal Investigator;
- Provide clinical guidance and mentorship to Research Physicians and Nurse Practitioners;
- Supervise and train recent medical team members;
- Lead medical process-improvement initiatives;
- Develop and deliver training across the Research Physician and Nurse Practitioner teams;
- Manage an allocated portfolio of medical or clinical development work;
- Help provide medical coverage during planned and unplanned Principal Investigator leave, within the appropriate delegation and governance arrangements.
About you:
We’re looking for a clinician who is curious, collaborative and passionate about healthcare innovation, with the confidence to apply sound clinical judgement in a research environment.
You’ll bring:
- Current unconditional medical registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Medical Indemnity Insurance;
- ALS1 certification, or a willingness to complete the required training;
- Strong clinical assessment, communication and interpersonal skills;
- A calm, practical and patient-focused approach, with the ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced setting;
- An interest in clinical research, emerging treatments and innovation in healthcare;
- The flexibility to work varied hours, including occasional after-hours work and weekends where required;
- Previous clinical research or early-phase trial experience will be highly regarded.
