The Opportunity
SEE Group has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Legal Counsel to join our highly professional Legal team, based at our Helensvale Head Office on an 18 month fixed term basis.
As Senior Legal Counsel, you will provide strategic, commercially focused legal advice across the business working collaboratively with business units to ensure all operations of the organisation are conducted within the limits prescribed by law and that the organisation’s rights are fully protected through the provision of sound legal counsel and guidance. You will work closely with and support the General Counsel as well as assisting in mentoring junior lawyers of the Legal team.
Responsibilities
Drafting, reviewing and negotiating urban, mining and infrastructure construction contracts and finalising legal documentation including:
- The provision of legal advice on a broad spectrum of construction law, property law, WHS law, commercial law, litigation and administrative law matters to both internal and external stakeholders
- Monitoring emerging and relevant legislation that will impact the business
- Build key business relationships to be a trusted business partner
- Monitor the provision of legal services from external counsel
- Ensure the business is compliant with applicable laws and regulation
Essential Skills and Attributes
- Tertiary qualification in Law
- Preferably a minimum of 7 years' post-admission experience or greater, ideally in construction law (with commercial and properly law experience highly regarded).
- Sound understanding of various forms of construction contract models, commercial contracts and supply agreements
- Well-developed understanding on the relationship between head contracts and subcontracts
- Understanding of guarantees, warranties, insurances and bonds
- Strong attention to detail and analytically minded
- Highly developed negotiation, influencing and stakeholder management skills supported by excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Understanding and experience in application of procurement and contract management principles, concepts, practices, and standards
