mySMB.com is looking for a Business Process Analyst who can understand how businesses really work — and turn that into better, more repeatable processes.
Initially, you’ll work closely with bookkeepers, accountants and the businesses they support, while also working across a broader range of business systems and operational processes.
This is not a traditional accounting role and it is not simply software implementation.
You’ll work directly with business owners, operators and advisers to understand current processes, identify inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement, and translate those processes into practical workflows within the mySMB.com Workspace.
What you’ll do
- Facilitate process discovery conversations with businesses and advisers.
- Map current-state processes, including people, systems, hand-offs, decisions and exceptions.
- Identify duplication, bottlenecks, manual work and opportunities to simplify or automate.
- Design practical future-state processes.
- Identify opportunities to simplify, automate and improve processes using workflow automation, AI and other digital tools.
- Translate business processes into Workspace workflows, tasks, automations, templates and other platform capabilities.
- Work with product and technical teams where new functionality or integrations are required.
- Help create reusable process templates that can be applied across similar businesses or industries.
- Test and refine processes with users to make sure they work in the real world.
Initial focus
Your early work will include bookkeeping and accounting practices and their clients, alongside other core SMB systems and processes.
This may include:
- Client onboarding
- Accounts payable and receivable
- Payroll
- BAS and compliance preparation
- Month-end processes
- CRM and customer management
- Sales, quoting and follow-up
- Job and project management
- HR and employee processes
- Procurement and approvals
- Document collection and information flows
- Reporting and management processes
- Hand-offs between accounting, operational and customer-facing systems
You do not need to be a practising accountant, but you do need enough bookkeeping and accounting knowledge to understand finance-related processes and speak credibly with practitioners.
Equally important is your ability to understand how different business systems work together — including accounting platforms, CRM, workflow, practice-management, project-management, HR and other operational systems.
What we’re looking for
You’ll ideally bring:
- Strong business process analysis, process mapping or business analysis experience.
- Confidence facilitating discovery conversations with non-technical business users.
- The ability to turn messy,
undocumented processes into explicit workflows.
- Experience identifying opportunities to simplify, standardise and automate work.
- Strong communication and requirements-gathering skills.
- Experience with bookkeeping, accounting or finance processes.
- Familiarity with Xero and/or other mainstream accounting platforms.
- Exposure to CRM, workflow, practice-management, project-management, HR or other SMB business systems.
- Comfortable exploring how AI can support business processes, decision-making, knowledge work and automation.
Experience in process improvement, SaaS implementation, automation, solution design or AI-enabled workflow design would be highly regarded.
What valuable looks like
You’re someone who naturally asks:
- What actually happens?
- What happens next?
- Who owns this step?
- Where does this information come from?
- Why is this being done twice?
- What happens when something goes wrong?
- Could this process be simpler?
The subject matter and systems may change, but the core skill stays the same: understanding how a business operates and turning that into a better way of working.
