This position is identified for an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and is intended to constitute a special measure under section 8 (1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth), and section 57 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1996 (NT).
About the Role:
The Aboriginal Health Practitioner Trainee will join our dedicated team to undergo a comprehensive training program aimed at developing the necessary skills and knowledge to become a qualified Aboriginal Health Practitioner within the Danila Dilba Health Services. The role requires periodic attendance at the Registered Training Organisation, which includes residential boarding at Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education in Batchelor NT. Trainee’s will rotate though the various clinics and programs within DDHS.
What You Need to Succeed
Be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent and be able to provide proof of Aboriginality from a registered Aboriginal community organisation.
First Year Trainee Aboriginal Health Practitioner
Currently enrolled in the HLT40221 Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (Practice) at Batchelor Institute and having successfully completed the below units and provide current student transcript (proof of enrolment).
- HLTAWOR002-Work in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander primary health care.
- HLTWHS006-Manage personal stressors in the work workplace
- HLTINF006-Apply basic principles and practices of infection prevention and control.
- HLTWHS001-Participate in workplace health and safety
- HLTAHCS004-Complete comprehensive physical health assessments
- CHCCCS014-Provide brief interventions
- CHCDFV001-Recognise and respond appropriately to domestic and family violence.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people.
- Basic numeracy and literacy skills.
- Willingness to undertake LLN (literacy, language, and numeracy) assessments.
- Be 17 years of age or older (requirement of the Registered Training Organisation).

Employment with us is subject to:
- Willing to undergo a Police Check.
- Ability and willingness to obtain a Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card).
- Current CPR certificate or the preparedness to gain one within 6 months of commencement.
- Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or an exemption as listed on the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) be submitted.
- Full rights to work in Australia.
