About the role
Reporting to the Midrange & Storage Services Manager, you will be responsible for managing SAN storage devices, overseeing data protection backup/restore jobs and administering the company’s IT monitoring system. You will collaborate closely with wider IT teams to deliver engineering expertise and business-as-usual (BAU) support across a diverse range of managed services.
You will;
- Manage, monitor, and optimise Linux infrastructure performance across physical, virtual, and application environments.
- Plan, deploy, upgrade, and maintain Linux systems, including server provisioning, patching, hardware refreshes, and software lifecycle management.
- Ensure high availability through robust backup, disaster recovery, and system resilience practices.
- Develop, automate, standardize, and document system processes, leveraging scripting and SOE best practices to improve operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with vendors, service providers, development, and operational teams to support system performance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
- Enforce information security, compliance, and governance standards, including incident monitoring, reporting,
and participation in after-hours maintenance activities.
About You
You have experience working in complex IT environments, with strong communication skills and the ability to produce clear technical documentation. You are highly organised, team-oriented, and able to effectively manage competing priorities while working independently or within a team. You also possess strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with expertise in system performance monitoring, analysis, and optimisation.
You will also have;
- Proven experience managing and optimizing RHEL and SLES environments across physical and virtual enterprise platforms.
- Strong knowledge of Linux lifecycle management tools, including Red Hat Satellite, SUSE Manager, and Foreman/Katello.
- Expertise in automation and configuration management, particularly using Ansible.
- Solid understanding of Linux/Unix networking and TCP/IP technologies.
- Experience with VMware virtualization, including deployment and administration of Linux virtual machines.
- Strong scripting skills in Bash, KornShell (ksh), Perl, and Python.
