An opportunity has arisen for an experienced senior legal leader to join a growing and highly regulated financial services organisation in a broad Head of Legal & Regulatory role.

Reporting to the General Manager, Legal & Compliance, this position will lead the legal and regulatory advisory function and work closely with senior executives across the business to support commercial growth, manage legal and regulatory risk and navigate an increasingly complex regulatory environment.

This is a highly visible leadership role suited to a commercially minded financial services lawyer who enjoys operating at the intersection of legal, regulation, risk and business strategy.

The Role

Key responsibilities will include:

- Providing strategic and operational legal advice across the organisation
- Partnering with senior executives and business leaders on commercial initiatives and strategic projects
- Advising on new products, partnerships, business initiatives and transformation programs
- Overseeing the drafting, review and negotiation of significant commercial contracts
- Providing advice on Australian financial services regulation and regulatory obligations
- Acting as a key point of contact for regulatory engagement, including ASIC and APRA
- Monitoring regulatory developments and leading legal input into regulatory change initiatives
- Identifying and managing material legal and regulatory risks
- Contributing to enterprise risk management and governance frameworks
- Supporting Board governance and company secretarial matters where required
- Overseeing significant disputes, litigation, regulatory investigations and incident response
- Advising on breach reporting, remediation and external dispute resolution matters




- Developing and maintaining legal and regulatory policies, frameworks and procedures
- Managing external legal advisers and associated budgets
- Leading, mentoring and developing a high-performing legal team

About You

You will be an experienced senior financial services lawyer with:

- Approximately 15+ years' legal and/or regulatory experience
- Current Australian legal qualifications and practising certificate
- Significant experience working within a regulated financial services workplace
- Strong knowledge of the Corporations Act, AFSL obligations and relevant regulatory frameworks
- Demonstrated experience engaging directly with regulators including ASIC and/or APRA
- Experience across insurance, banking, wealth management or superannuation
- Previous in-house leadership experience
- Proven experience leading and developing legal teams
- Exposure to regulatory change programs, transformation or significant business change
- Strong commercial judgement and the ability to balance legal risk with strategic opportunity
- Highly developed stakeholder management and influencing skills
- The confidence to operate effectively with senior executives and other key decision makers

You will be pragmatic, commercially focused and comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment where legal advice needs to support both effective risk management and business growth.
