Kalgoorlie - Boulder

As EACON Australia continues to expand its operations, dedicated to Autonomous Haulage Systems (AHS), we are seeking a new Test and Support Engineer to join our team, reporting to our AHS Lead Test Engineer. This role supports the testing, deployment, and ongoing operation of our next-generation autonomous mining solutions. This is a full-time, site-based role working 8 days on 6 days off roster rotation.

In order to establish the team and working dynamics, the initial roster rotation will be 4 days on / 3 days off.

This is not a traditional software development or QA role. It is a hands-on engineering position designed for someone who wants to develop deep, end-to-end expertise across autonomous haulage systems while working at the intersection of system testing, field deployment, troubleshooting, and technical support.

The role will focus on system-level verification and validation, fault investigation, and hands-on troubleshooting across autonomy software, vehicle hardware, drive-by-wire controls, sensors, communications, and fleet management systems. Acting as a key link between overseas R&D; testing, on-site engineering, and technical support, you will help ensure autonomous vehicles and supporting systems operate safely, reliably, and as designed throughout deployment and ongoing operations.

Working closely with our Australian project teams and China-based R&D; engineers, you will investigate system issues, reproduce and diagnose faults, validate technical fixes, and support the safe introduction of system updates and releases into operational environments. The successful candidate will bring strong technical judgement, structured problem-solving skills, and a practical, hands-on approach. You will be comfortable working in a fast-paced site environment during intensive testing and deployment phases, while also contributing to technical documentation, knowledge sharing, system improvement, and operational readiness as the AHS platform continues to mature and scale.

Key responsibilities

As our AHS Test and Support Engineer, your responsibilities consist of the following.

- Participate in verification and validation of test activities during new AHS project deployments, new vehicle model integrations and major software upgrades or releases.
- Understand system architecture, functional design, interfaces and integration boundaries across the AHS platform.
- Develop and review verification and validation of test cases and execute plans.

- Conduct functional testing and validation of autonomous driving features such as obstacle detection, obstacle avoidance, routing and dispatch behaviour.
- Analyse test failures, abnormal system behaviour and operational issues to identify root causes across software, hardware, system integration and operational scenarios.
- Document issues in a clear, structured and engineering-focused manner and communicate findings to R&D; and product teams.
- Support test planning activities, including test scope definition, resource and environment planning, and coordination with engineering and deployment teams.
- Actively participate in L2 technical support for complex AHS system issues that cannot be resolved through manuals or standard procedures.
- Provide in office technical support during deployment, commissioning, troubleshooting and operational phases.
- Support installation, commissioning, configuration and calibration of mining trucks, ancillary equipment and system sensors.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot real-time issues across hardware, software and communication systems during field operations.
- Support maintenance activities, system upgrades and operational performance improvements for all AHS-related systems.
- Capture, analyse and report system logs, test data and operational data, and prepare test plans, procedures and technical documentation.
- Escalate issues to China-based R&D; teams with clear technical context and support investigation and solution development.
- Communicate clearly with local project teams regarding plans, task priorities, testing schedules, dependencies and risks.
- Work with customers and site stakeholders to support system changes and capture operational feedback.
- Participate in operational risk assessments, JHA and safety-related review processes.
- Contribute to building and maintaining an on-site knowledge base and standardising troubleshooting, diagnostics and support processes.
- Test and calibrate Drive-by-wire systems (steering, braking, throttle, shifting). Support GNSS calibration, sensor alignment,

and CAN bus diagnostics.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot issues in real-time on vehicles and systems.
- Communicate effectively with the China R&D; team to report issues, request support, and provide feedback.
- Participate in field validation, commissioning, and demonstrations.
