Bordertown
Sedgmoor Holdings is a large-scale broadacre and irrigated cropping business operating approximately 4,600 hectares near Bordertown, South Australia.
We are seeking an experienced harvest operator to join our team for the 2026 harvest and summer cropping period.
The primary responsibility of this position is the operation of modern high-capacity combine harvesters. This is not simply a machinery-driving role. We require an operator capable of independently setting up, calibrating and optimising combine systems and automation features as crop, weather and paddock conditions change.
Our farming business places a strong emphasis on machinery technology, automation, precision agriculture and efficient harvest performance. The successful applicant will be expected to understand how machine settings affect capacity, grain quality and harvest losses and to make appropriate adjustments without constant supervision.
Key responsibilities
- Operate modern high-capacity combine harvesters across wheat, barley, canola, pulses and other broadacre crops.
- Independently set up and calibrate combines for different crops and changing harvest conditions.
- Adjust rotor speed, concave clearance, fan speed, sieve settings and other threshing and cleaning parameters.
- Configure and monitor automated combine functions to maximise machine capacity while maintaining grain quality and minimising losses.
- Set and adjust header controls, cutting height and automated header functions.
- Monitor grain-loss systems and carry out physical loss checks behind the machine.
- Calibrate and monitor yield, moisture and crop-monitoring systems.
- Use GPS guidance, autosteer,
machine-performance data and other precision-agriculture systems fitted to the machinery.
- Identify poor machine performance and make appropriate operational adjustments.
- Monitor grain quality, crop condition and harvest readiness during operation.
- Communicate machine performance, crop conditions and yield observations to farm management.
- Assist with coordination of combines, chaser bins, trucks and grain-handling operations.
- Carry out daily machinery inspections, servicing and routine maintenance.
- Assist with cropping and irrigated crop-production activities outside the main harvest period where required.
Skills and experience
Applicants should have demonstrated experience operating large modern combine harvesters and a strong understanding of harvesting broadacre grain crops.
Experience in combine setup, calibration, threshing and separation systems, grain-loss management, machine automation and precision-agriculture technology is highly regarded.
Agricultural qualifications or formal training in farming, agricultural science, agronomy or crop production would also be highly regarded, particularly where combined with practical harvesting experience.
Applicants must be capable of working independently, making sound operational decisions as conditions change, and working longer hours and weekends during harvest when weather and crop conditions require.
Experience with New Holland CR-series combines or similar high-capacity machines would be particularly valuable.
Accommodation can be provided close to the farm.
Pay: $38.50 – $40.00 per hour
Expected hours: 38.0 – 50.0 per week

- Company car
