Some recovery roles are about working a queue. This one isabout taking ownership of the complex debt recovery matters that requirejudgement, persistence and a clear understanding of the legal optionsavailable.
n
We are looking for a Legal Recoveries Officer to managecomplex accounts through late stage recovery, insolvency, litigation andenforcement. You'll join a small Late Recoveries team and take ownership of aspecialist function that sits between Collections and the external lawyers andagents who help us enforce our contractual rights.
n
This role is where you will have a strong understanding ofinsolvency and recovery law, experience in navigating complex debt matters aswell as the ability to make commercial decisions in challengingsituations.
n
The role
n
You'll pick up files following default and agencyplacement, assess the available contractual and legal recovery options, anddetermine the best path forward.
n
Depending on the matter, that could involve negotiating a final resolution with a customer or guarantor, managing an insolvency or liquidation process, instructing lawyers and recovery agents, overseeing the repossession and realisation of an asset, or pursuing a remaining shortfall.
n
You'll be trusted to manage your matters from assessmentthrough to resolution, balancing customer circumstances, legal obligations,recovery prospects and commercial outcomes.

What you'll do
n
n
- Managecomplex secured and unsecured accounts through litigation, insolvency,liquidation, enforcement and recovery
n
- Takeownership of files following default and external agency placement
n
- Assesscontractual and legal recovery options based on exposure, risk, cost andthe likelihood of recovery
n
- Actas the key link between Collections, external lawyers, insolvencypractitioners and recovery agents
n
- Negotiatesettlements, payment arrangements and late-stage resolutions withcustomers, guarantors and third parties
n
- Preparelegal documentation and clear, comprehensive instructions for solicitorsand enforcement providers
n
- Coordinatestatements of claim, default judgment applications, process serving andother enforcement activity
n
- Manageliquidation, insolvency and guarantor recovery processes
n
- Overseeasset repossession and realisation, including the management of anyremaining shortfall
n
- Maintainaccurate, audit-ready case files, legal registers and critical deadlines
n
- Contributeto the continued development of effective late-stage and legal recoveryprocesses
n

What we're looking for
n
This is quite a specialised role. You may come from legalrecoveries, commercial collections, debt litigation or insolvency. Alternatively, you may be a paralegal or legally trained professional withstrong exposure to collections, lending or asset recovery.
n
You'll bring:
n
n
- Atleast two years' experience in legal recoveries,
commercial collections,debt litigation, insolvency or a related financial services environment
n
- Astrong understanding of late-stage debt recovery, litigation andenforcement processes
n
- Knowledgeof insolvency, liquidation, guarantor recovery, asset realisation andshortfall recovery
n
- Anunderstanding of contractual rights and the commercial considerationsinvolved in pursuing legal action
n
- Confidencehandling difficult negotiations and holding your position whencircumstances become challenging
n
- Experienceinstructing and working with external solicitors, recovery agents andenforcement providers
n
- Strongwritten communication skills, including the ability to prepare formalcorrespondence and clear legal instructions
n
- Soundjudgement and the ability to make practical, commercially informeddecisions
n
- Highattention to detail and the ability to manage multiple complex matters anddeadlines
n
- Aresilient, tenacious approach, balanced with fairness, professionalism andan appropriate customer focus
n
n
**Knowledge of Australian civil procedure, NCCPrequirements, the Privacy Act 1988 and ASIC and ACCC debt collection guidelineswill be valuable. A paralegal, legal executive, insolvency or law-relatedbackground is highly regarded, but is not essential.
